Personally I'm glad to see smoking banned from the workplace, bars and restaurants. People really need to stop smoking. Both of my GF's parents have lung cancer and hear disease and I lost my dad to lung cancer. My sister can't breath without oxygen anymore because he own lungs are shot to hell thanks to her pack-a-day habbit.

Smoking as "cool" was sold to us in the 30's and 40's but today, any time I see someone smoking, they don't look cool to me - they look weak. They have to put whatever they're doing on hold for a few minutes just to get their fix. Pretty sad.

I gave up almost 11 years ago now. I was a 40 smokes a day guy. But every now and then I like a cigar.

I don't see the scare in this campaigns, some people that have never smoked in their life get these.

I'll never understand why people even start smoking in the first place. It truly is a disgusting habit and a health hazard to those around you.

My thoughts on smoking are, if you want to smoke, do so in your own home and not around others. It's your life, smoke up. However, if you are smoking around others, you should be fined for some sort of negligence or abuse, especially if you're one of those bad parents who smoke in the car with their kids inside. That is child abuse and you suck as a parent if you do that.

I use to smoke a bit, mostly when I went out. Rarely at work or in the house. I quit for good the day the doctor told me I had cancer.

Thailand is bad. They passed laws to fine smokers smoking in public areas but it is not enforced.

Even though you are supposed to be an adult to buy smokes here, 7-11 sells them to kids. Not uncommon to see 10 year old boys lighting up.

i can only speak for the uk, but according to a lancet study (2006) £9.3bn in tax was generated from tobacco sales against a cost to the nhs of £1.5bn. so actually smokers are subsidising the british health care system.

First I am a smoker - information like this is nothing new - pictures are already on Canadian cigarette packages and still do nothing to help or want me to quit. I would love to see the stats on how many people actually go, "wow that's bad - I'm quiting now".

For me my goal to stop smoking has nothing really to do with my health but now that I have two children - I want to be around when they grow up knowing the longer they have their father, the happier all of us will be.

Really, your mindset on smoking is the reason non-smokers dislike smokers. Why can't you just smoke in your house, in your car or in smoking zones and be happy with that? Why try to make others around you ill? To knowingly harm others and potentially be the cause of their cancer, and be OK with it, speaks volumes about a persons character.

You do know that in the end non-smokers will prevail, don't you? As the world grows healthier, the places you will be permitted to smoke will decrease until it's just you puffing away in a designated smoking zone inside your house. So smoke up while you still can, it's not going to last forever.

I don't think smokers know just how bad they smell until after they stop smoking. You can even smell the nicotine in their sweat. And smoking outside and then coming back in doesn't mask it. You bring that funk with you. It's gnarly.
