Gfy cleanup: phone- and domainname verification?

Takes a bit of work but im sure someone cool and respected (like me) could taje this work from the very busy gfy staff.

1. Add phonenumber verification. Code gets send to the new member that needs this to complete registration.

Step 2. staffmember verifies at least 1 site or domain. Either by using whois, or have him upload a specific file with code to hus server.

If he cant do both, it would be obvious.

Yes, its more work. Lot can be automated, and then again a mod has to approve new members right now too. So it wouldnt be to timeconsuming.

And off course proxies are simply forbidden.

Yeah, that sort of thing would make it a pain. Not to mention the whole feeling of feeling as if you are somehow being challenged or asked to prove yourself for the privilege of posting. I like GFY. That shouldnt be a problem. It would be easy to either show a post on any of your sites or upload a verification document to a server that can be downloaded to the only 2 persons that know its there: you and a mod.

Or how about GFY create a separate sub-forum for every poster with 10,000+ posts? Then every member can have their own little piece of internet paradise, and run it as they see fit.

The automatic site verificationn could be put together. Ban all free hosted URLs and whatnot, give the user a specified .html file which needs to be uploaded. Then verify the URL it has been uploaded to in the system. Something like that could work to an extent, it wouldn't solve all the problems though. It could probably be cheated easily enough y someone looking to do so too.

Why not open a paid section, as opposed to makig the whole forum paid? You see this on a lto of mainstream forums. Charge $100/year or something for access to the paid forum. Only people who pay to get in are allowed in, only business is allowed, and failure to adhere to the rules in said section results in forfeiture of your fees and access. It gives the serious members a place to hang out and discuss biz, some people would ever leave this area, and the hangers on a surfers still have access to the rest of the forum. The $100/fee should more than pay for the mod's time taken to verify industry role and perhaps even hit up references to verify industry participation, while adding an additional revenue stream to gfy...

here are two things I find comical about this thread.

1) The idea that GFY would somehow be a better place without the input of the few surfers that sneak in...It would not.

2) That there is something special about being a webmaster in the adult industry. This is worlds easiest business to get in to. Anyone can buy a domain name and set up a free link site in less than an hour. If you don't know what you are doing, the helpful staff at godaddy will walk you through it, or you could hire a guy in India off scriptlance to do it for you for about $25.

You are right, I am a sig-whore... but that has nothing to do with why I post here and does not mean that this is the only thing I do in the industry. I've been posting in the same fashion long before anyone asked to buy my sig. The sig part is just an extra bonus for me.

Also, I've made a ton of referral money from my sig... especially when pushing scripts. So people do click sigs and people do make decent cash sig whoring. I could show stats to prove it. God only knows how much referral money I missed out on by not adding a referral link to my sig buyers banner.

That has nothing to do with this topic though. My statement still stands, if you want to cleanup a forum then go create your own and have at it... but after reading your first post again it seems you're just begging for a quick job.

You are right, i dont know shit about you. All i know is i see you flying your signature. Besides that i never heard of you, your sites, or what it is you do. And that is exactly my point. If you think im begging for a quick job i can help you out of that thought real fast: Im not even going close to being the one who will do the moderating.
