BRUNO movie. Legal question. Does anyone know how they do this?

So yesterday I watched BRUNO (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0889583/) starring comedian Sacha Baron Chohen (BORAT) and as expected, laughed my head off during the whole movie. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Sacha plays Bruno who some how plays amazing jokes on individuals, groups, celebrities and even arena's full of people. In one scene, he upsets a focus group watching a new TV show. In another he pisses off Paula Abdul. The last bit where he freaks out a bunch of rednecks in Alabama is just amazing.

My question is, how does he legally do this? Don't these people have to sign an agreement giving permission to be in his movie? And considering some of the humiliation some of these people go through (including some serious career killing moments), why would any of them choose to still be in the movie? Or is it possible that some of these agreements are tricks or somehow so iron clad that you're fucked no matter what?

Have you seen the interviews that he had with people for his Ali G show? I wonder what they told those high profile people and why they agreed to do the interview. They probably told them that this guy is a little backwards and is doing a show for the kids channel. Why else would those people have agreed to do the interview? This is not about some guys who want to sell themselves like in Bruno. His persona Ali G has interviewed lots of celebs that do not profit from this kind of exposure.

I think a lot of it is staged. For example I saw something in the very first trailer, and it was different in the actual movie, meaning they re-shot it, so the people obviously knew.

It's a movie, some parts are real and some are fake. some parts are real with fake reshoots edited in.

Some people signed a release, some didn't. Think about it like it's a documentary. You don't need a release from soldiers in a firefight or every fireman fighting a fire.

The question about Borat lawsuits were put up to increase publicity? True, it's Hollywood, don't believe anything you hear about who is dating who and how much somebody got paid or how many albums or tickets someone sold. It's all marketing made to get you to believe it's a great product and you should buy it.

There are situations where he tells the people he is making a reality show or documentary or something so that they will sign the release then he does his crazy shit without them knowing. case in point is the Paula Abdul stuff. She was told that she had some some award and was going to this house to do the interview for winning the award. What she got was Bruno there and human furniture and all that stuff. She had no idea what was going on.
