It's been a great series so far. People are just too fucking stupid to see it, because they're expecting an action thriller that can be packed into a 90 minute movie, without any real charcter development or so forth. This is a season long television drama, not a 90 minute action/horror film. They're setting up a lot of little sub plots, things will start coming together in the next few episodes. At 45 minutes an episode, there's almost 10 hours of storyline inn the season, and they've already confirmed a second season for production of 13 episodes. Obviously it's not going to be a whole hour of bloody slaughter every week. This is primetime television, ad it's a whole new realm for zombies. It's going to be a little different. I'm liking it so far.

As I've mentioned, it sucks that this "season" is only gonna be 6 eps.
I love the show, but the writing is LAZY AS FUCK.
male character needs motivation: use his wife. dead, alive, zombie, missing, fucking some dude, who cares? next song.
need a villain real quick: racial slurs and unprovoked violence do the trick. next song.
Also, i think the screen writer is having girl problems right now, cause all that woman-hating shit in the show aint in the books.
all that being said, i can't FUCKING WAIT for tonight's episode.
Love the show. Opened with a bang, slumped a little with development in 2 and 3 but picked back up a little in ep 4. Two more this season, and looking forward to next.

They explained that by having the brother say "Looks like the hacksaw was too dull to go through the pipe" or maybe it was something about him being in a hurry. Anyway, it was explained.
Last night's episode was pretty good, but unbelievable that all those guys would stay back to help an old age home. Good action, basic writing.

to dull to go through the handcuffs, which would have been a no brainer for hardened steel designed not to be cut
I'm really enjoying the series, however some of the acting sucks. The lead character (the cop) is great, but the 'Asian kid', the 'Redneck's Brother' and now the 'Vatos' all suck and way to stereotypical. Wish they would tone it down a little in that department.
lol, I get what you're saying but I like this series (especially the pilot episode) because it wasn't so "stereotypically" cheezy. It had great acting and the potential for DEEP character development. I just kind of feel they are getting away from that.

It's mentioned that the mexican gang-bangers went to check on their folks, and for most latins family is very important. This is shown quite clearly when the old lady, who is the grandmother ("abuela") of one or more of the gang-bangers interrupts the stand off and they back off.
As for those who think there isn't enough action, hah! In the comics there's whole arcs where there are no zombies whatsoever because the story is about how the survivors cope. If you want to simply watch zombies getting fucked up play "Left 4 Dead".

yeah I know, I just thought it wasn't quite explaind enough. They acted too much like gangbangers to just be regular guys banding together to protect their grandparents. A guy who was just a janitor seems pretty competent at being the head honcho for the gang. And the wanna-be kid has the pot leaf tattoo? Come on... the writing is just lazy and stereotypical. What wouldn't be stereotypical is if one of the women grabbed some balls and went back to look for Merle with the men. Or if that Jim guys turns out to be somewhat psychic with that dream he had and starts to lead the group in a religious sense. That'd be interesting. (haven't read the books so can't say if this is going to happen or not).

They WERE gangbangers who went to protect their old folks. Just because you're in a gang doesn't mean you don't give a shit about your nana getting eaten by zombies

I disagree. For example, you're saying that the gang bangers shouldn't give a shit about their old folks. When the old lady sees the cop she immediately jumps in to defend her grandson saying "don't take him away, he's a good boy he just got into trouble he's okay now", which shows in an understated way WHY a gang banger would stay in the middle of a zombie apocalypse to defend her.
Myself, I prefer subtle things like that than being hit over the head about a character's motivation.

I agree, the grandmother stepping in like that was a nice touch. But so far most of the other plot lines are pretty standard Hollywood action movie fare:
racist hicks pissing people off, then needing help and/or being useful
asian kid providing the smarts/planning
cop trying to save the world/do the right thing
old guy being wise and steady/offering philosophical commentary
wifebeating guy getting put in his place
I do like that one of the sisters died. Now maybe the older sister will be free to pick up a gun and kick some ass instead of just fishing.
Why has noone thought about shelter for the fall/winter? They seem happy to be camping? What's with that?

She will. Oh man will she ever.

They were staying close to the city so they could go raid it for supplies and they were relatively safe. As you can see that changed, and winter will play a big part in the following events, although I believe that will be in the next season.
