best: virgin atlantic bar none.. their upperclass is amazing.. nothing like a scalp massage on board (yes i got a massage in first class on the airplane :)
their lounge in LHR is incredible.. no doubt the best airline lounge in the world.. anyone that has been there can attest to it |
worst: american, delta, continental(economy, their first class is OK)

Richard Branson is one smart mofo:
Virgin Atlantic has announced that it has almost doubled annual profits, just a few days after rival British Airways reported a record loss. The airline said pre-tax profits soared from £34.8m to £68.4m in the year to February, despite a backdrop of volatile oil prices and the deep recession. The results contrast with BA's record annual operating loss of £401m, reported last Friday, after its fuel bill reached almost £3bn. Virgin Atlantic, which is majority owned by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, flew 5.8 million passengers over the period, helped by higher numbers of premium travellers Wanna know why? i did a random search for first class from LAX-LHR British airways: $14,000 Virgin Atlantic upperclass : $3,800 Thats over $10,000 less.lol Granted its not 100% the same, but when u fly Virgin Upperclass its pretty much as good as british airways first class, barring one or two differences.. but a $10k difference?? |

If you can get it it's the cheapest way to go first class (well, I've never faked an injury so I guess not THEE cheapest :disgust). Seems like the last few years ti's been harder to hit it, first class has been all booked up and some other airlines are offering discount first class upgrades so it's not what it used to be anymore. I'm surprised so much hate for Air Canada. I used to take them back and forth from Toronto to Tampa alot. Maybe it's just that route but the planes were newer, flights were cheap, lots of leg room, straight shot flight, etc. No complaints. |
Best = Emirates, always great service, clean and on schedule
Worst = Uzbekistan Airways.... where to begin.... left on the runway in a bus in -10 degrees with the doors wide open and the driver nowhere to be seen for in excess of 2 hours... that was just the start. |
Virgin Atlantic - their London base is outstanding, SAS for their extremely fresh and clean airplanes, Lufthansa on their Frankfurt-New York all business class flight, AA for their massive network and incredible all over performance - you gotta love the Dallas terminal, BA for their Concorde class - once you've flown it you know what superiority and Brittish Aristocracy is all about.
Worst, so many it's not even funny. Northwest when they still flew DC10 accross the Atlantic, Lufthansa economy class, never, never ever set foot onboard a Ryanair plane and never will - they still qualify among the worst, Southwest for their dirty shitty planes and constant ability to lose luggage even on non-stop flights, Air France for their unprofessional stewardesses and their unwillingness to speak English. Oh don't even get me started, I have so many on my no-fly-list. :) |
I really like Ryanair for their prices, but thats about it.
Me and my friends when we were 17 used to travel to places for nights out for 0.02p, taxes everything included. I joke you not. That is pretty incredible. You can still get a cheap weekend away in Europe for about £25. Of course it all ends after their prices. |
Best: Emirates
2nd Best: Virgin Worst: Air France. |
Aeroflot had to be scariest.
Best would definitely be Virgin. |
Worst has to be united for me
best is southwest cant beat their prices and no luggage fee's ....plus decent inflight entertainment and most flights have wifi :) |
Flying sucks in general!

Define what you are looking for in a flight -- that makes a big difference.
If you're flying US domestic and you don't want to fuck around, Southworst is the way to go, it's like the Greyhound of the skies. Personally I don't care for them, but that's just me. Transatlantic service, if you can get on a flight on Air Tahiti Nui, they rock, in all classes. American has really let the quality of their interiors slide lately, even in first, imo. United has been making a major push to upgrade their interiors to the point that they have the most room, seat pitch, etc in any class of service for a US carrier flying internationally. Air New Zealand is a GREAT airline. Nice people, clean planes, you can move your legs in economy, free drinks, food, etc. Air Lingus, Ryan, EasyJet -- those are like Southwest in the states - you get where you are going, that's for sure. I've flown some insanely crappy airlines in the Caribbean, and a lot of the airports there are so manana mentalitied that it's nuts. Balair/SwissAir in it's original deal used to be my favorite. Don't care for KLM at all. |
I used to work at a travel agent and I heard WAY too much about Aeroflot to ever fly them. My favourite story about them is when they had to ask the passengers to chip in money to refuel the plane. Um, no.

i also gotta throw in airfrance as one of the worst airlines.. i flew business from paris to dubai and that was a shitty flight.... the food was crappy and it was like economy.. i couldnt even get something to drink enough times.. took me like 30min-1hr each time to get a drink..
while on virgin atlantic i could walk to the upper class bar and grab a drink :D Ive flown virgin, air france, united, delta, swiss, klm, southwest, jetblue, air tran, continental, copa, british airways, and a few more im forgetting.. and out of all of them, i rank virgin #1.. i grab virgin whenever i can.. |

I notice a few have mentioned a few singapore airlines, and they are all meant to be fantastic, although never flown them. My worst was iberia, however, not for the crew but because of a heavy storm, dropping 10thousand feet in a few minutes is pretty dramatic! |
Best: Virgin.
Worst: Everyone else. |
See the correlation between Airlines with Unions being shitty and Airlines without being the best?
Lots of Asian airlines you can't get hired and have to move on when you hit 30. |

again with air canada - i flew executive class literally 4 days ago to mexico. took almost an hour to get a drink. they lost their corkscrew (why would they only have one corkscrew anyway?). so dude pulls out a knife, and is trying to get the cork out of a bottle of wine. real whimpy guy, so i asked him if he wanted me to give it a go. he was like, well, i can't let you have a knife. so he farts around with the bottle for another 15 minutes, and finally just hands it to me. had it open in a minute. air canada. what can you say lol.
oh, also, Aerolineas Argentinas sucks balls too. lost all our snowboard luggage and gear, waited around on the tarmac for 30 minutes, crappy plane, crappy food, crappy everything. actually i suppose that is least favorite airline. |
