Back up your claim that it makes no sense.
You are removing a dozen square inches of surface area for diseases to attach to or develop on. If I had my arm removed I'd be about 10% less likely to develop skin cancer. Hell if I had my entire penis removed i'd have a -100% chance of developing penlie cancer. Doesn't mean I'd do it. You have to look at the sampling methodology and determination of the statistics.
Female circumcision and of course the dreaded muslims were used to juxtapose the support for an unfamiliar religious genital custom with a familiar one. In western countries muslims tend to "only" do a "ritualised nick" of the clitoral hood although of course some do still get sent back to grand parents in their home countries for a "holiday".
Basically the point is that we are ok with what we are familiar with. Everyone is used to circumcision in our culture so it doesn't seem like a big deal to remove a body part for neglible (if any) benefits on balance without informed consent. Just like some orthodox Jews don't think there is too much wrong with a mohel sucking on their baby's penis with his mouth after circumcision (mezizah), but you'd take a shotgun to someone you found doing the same thing in your baby's room without a second's thought.Last edited by bhutocracy; 11-15-2010, 07:55 PM.Comment

It's about time the world moves on from these outdated barbaric practices. Most people know the real reason behind both male and female circumcision was to help a person stay in control so as they don't have kids of of wedlock and bring shame on the family.
If someone really wants this done, it's better to wait until they can make that decision for themselves, the same as with getting tattooed.Comment

Studies done show circumcision lowers hiv rates. but it is not so simple. Real data doesn't show the same numbers.. actual hiv rates among cut vs noncut shows the exact opposite.
They big hiv tests were cutting adult males not just testing cut vs non cut from birth.. big difference. the whole test is skewed.. first off if you cut an adult males dick he probably wont be having sex for awhile thus avoiding sex that could contract hiv.. so of course you will have lower hiv rates among the cut men because they arent having sex..hatisblack at yahoo.comComment

testing any other way would be highly suspect.. adult aged males who are circumcised already would be in an entirely different social/religious structure as it is not a normal thing.

That thought always worked for me until I started meeting children that my wife works with that were born VERY premature, are now 6 years old, and realize that they could have been legally aborted at the point when they were actually delivered prematurely, and thereby been deprived of their chance at life. Just because they could have been called a "fetus", I realized, did not make them any less human beings with rights. I think that doesn't apply in the first trimester, but after that, I think you're killing a kid.
So I find it interesting that in a City that is all for legal late term abortion, they are going to get into this issue.
In fact, most curcumsicion is done within the first week, so I guess if the child is delivered late, and they do the operation in the womb, then THAT would be ok, since it doesn't have rights.
