I really want to get a Franck Muller crazy hours next. The movement is so funky, jumps to the proper numbers.

Just don't be another guy with a boring Rolex. Check out Zenith, Corum, Ulisse Nardin, Hublot, Omega, Roger Dubuis, etc...

And to the people who use their cell phones to tell time, watches are jewelery... really the only kind a guy can get away with wearing :winkwink:

Here's some useful info about the watches..

* Designer watches
like D&G, Gucci, Dior, Armani are really not serious watch makers and those are trendy one season watches made to last few years. Basically throw-away watches.

* One-word brands (cheaper ones) like:
Casio, Citizen, Fossil, Swatch, Seiko, Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Longines,

* And two-word brands (named watches) that can be VERY expensive like:
Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin

My advice would be if you're looking to buy descent watch with mid budget go with Longines. Those are really good mid priced Swiss made watches that are made to last and have timeless design. Great quality watch for the cash spent.

If you want to spend few (thousand) bucks more, go with something like U. Nardin or V. Constantin. Those are high end watches that will always cost a fortune.

If the latter, a nice Piaget Polo FortyFive, or Cartier Tank ...

Daily wear.

That's a fucking slick idea... gonna have to check that out :D

Wolfy 11-15-2010 07:31 AM

Orrrrrrrrrrr maybe not - 12-20k might be a little out of my price range. I'd rather spend 3-5 and have 3 different watches, I like variety.

Most of the designer watches are made by those one word brands. For instance Fossil makes Armani watches.

Yeah Franck Muller gets pricey. The 3-5 range sucks because you have brands like Rado, Tissot, and Movado around 1k, then the higher end swiss ones like Hublot, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, Jaeger LeCouture, etc are 10-15-20-50k. The middle ground at 2-3k are TAG which you already have, and Omega.

3-5k puts you at Rolex and Breitling, probably why theyr'e so popular.

They are all made at the same manufacturers anyway... Some of em are nice designs, just not worth the brand markup.

I like the Louis Vuitton automatic watches... LVMH owns Zenith, TAG, and Hublot, and the LV watch movements come out of those factories.

Tom_PM 11-15-2010 02:19 PM

Some of the watches posted look pretty killer!

I live like a monk so dont have a watch.

They're called binary watches and display the time in true binary format. Love it.

from http://www.geekalerts.com

I was going to buy a bunch of those for resale when they 1st came out. Then I changed my mind, good thing, because they are dogs, collecting dust in most stores:2 cents:

PR_Glen 11-15-2010 02:40 PM

omega is the way to go, their new movement on the speedmaster is getting good reviews from collectors so the resale on it will sustain just as well as a rolex would, plus its not quite as expensive..

Rolex's are that cheap? I never really looked but I always thought they start at 8-10k weird

myneid 11-15-2010 03:58 PM

best watches ever

Wagerboy 11-15-2010 05:36 PM

My daily watch is a Breitling Chrono with a custom face and 4.1 kt floating bezel. My night out watch is usually a Cartier Pasha (round, not the old school tank) with a nice bezel as well, not sure about kt's I bought it pre owned. I have 4 others.

These cell phone posts are funny. A nice watch is about class, not so much to tell time.

An entry level Rolex is $2800 at Tounou (sp) at most malls. I get the damn email 3 times a week about it. But IMO Rolex is played out like 8 ball jackets, so many knock offs and really isnt a quality watch.

For stainless, yeah... Obviously gold, platinum, and diamonds will jack the price up. But those Submariners you see on everyone are pretty cheap as far as watches go.

I haven't worn either of these in over a year. No reason to, but I still have them.
