Any Ontario Broadband ISPs Besides Bell or Rogers?

Got a lovely notice in the mail today from Bell, telling me that my maximum "overage" costs will increase to $60 soon. I signed up in 2000 for Sympatico DSL unlimited, and the pieces of shit constantly change their over-priced plans. I'm paying $75 a month and the cocksuckers are charging me overage? My options are to cancel the service or buy a higher-priced plan. Fuck them.

Rogers is just incompetant from top to bottom, and I won't deal with them anymore.

Can anyone in Toronto recommend a good internet provider?

Rogers charges 2 bucks per gig overage when you hit 60GB. Canada's telecommunications industry is a filthy cartel supported by government bagmen resulting in Canadians getting inferior products at a higher price than Americans.

100% true. I signed for unlimited 10 years ago and the thieves have been changing my plan randomly without notice. Today I got a letter telling me to cancel if I don't like it.

Buy a can of Pringles -- make yourself a CANTENNA (yes they really do work) -- and steal the signal from your neighbors ..

For home use, Bell or Rogers or one of their resellers are the way to go. You can always switch to fiber optics, but you'll be paying much more than $75/mn. I'd suggest one of Rogers/Bell's resellers, most of them have less restrictions on their overage.

Thanks. The price isn't a concern. My concern is that Bell changes the rules randomly and almost never informs me about the changes.

I'm fishing for positive reviews of other ISPs and resellers. I want a flat fee and I'm sick of being nickle and dimed on my bills.

Primus got a 7M/800k plan but what they promise mean little in the end. If the router is oversold you'r up shit creek.

It doesn't hurt to call them and see what they can offer. The price more than doubles after the first year, so there's still shenanigans involved.

I'm with Eastlink in Sudbury.. I pay $118/month for phone, tv and internet (15mbps down, 1mbps up). 30mbps down, 2mbps up will be coming soon and I'll be able to have that for an extra $10. They will have 100mbps down, 5mbps up available soon, but that doesn't come in a bundle and costs like $160/month on its own. I can't justify paying that much just for internet.

Eastlink isn't available everywhere though.

3web was bought by distributel last year and their service has significantly improved compared to years past. They're also done a ton of hardware upgrades.

Teksavvy is best though. You can check out dslreports for more options.

I'm lucky, I pay around $55 a month for my Bell Sympatico high speed account, but I have had it for so long that I still have one of the grandfathered accounts that don't have a bandwidth limit. Some months I use almost 300 GB, just because I can! Fuck you Bell!

Check out Teksavvy. They resell both DSL & Cable. Their cable premium (which I'm waiting to get - it's not available at my location yet) is about $57/month 10Mb down/ 1Mb up UNLIMITED. They also have DSL unlimited, but since I'm near the end of the loop, my connection with DSL is flakey.

Wont be unlimited for much longer.

Enjoy the results of corporate cartels.
