Happy Veterans Day - How many GFYers Served In The Military ?

Thanks to all the present, past and future solders that protect our great country. I did my time in the Army straight out of high school in 1998. I was a MP. It was a great experience and taught me many lessons that will last a lifetime.

How many of you served time in the military and what branch were you in?

My father served on the USS Los Angeles (CA-135)

I served on the USS Tautog, (SSN 639) Sonar Tech

My daughter just got out of the Navy, she served on the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76)

But then there are only two kinds of ships, submarines and targets

Happy Veterans day to all the Veterans

How is it you "served your country" and you think you're entitled to respect? I serve my country every fucking year, to the tune of $80K+ in federal taxes. That's four months out of every year I work for my country instead of myself. When are YOU going to thank ME for my service... especially since I helped pay your salary?

Fuck this American "support our troops" phenomenon.

In Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Canada soldiers have always been rightly looked upon as shit-donkeys who are losers.

jesus dude, show some respect.

Regardless of your views on war, the point of today is to remember, and respect those that served and lost their lives for their country.

The reason they may have gotten free health care is they had a better chance of being killed than an adult WM paying his taxes.

Odds are you don't do anything useful.

What is there to respect in the first place about being a government employee sucking up public money? do I have to "respect" IRS bureaucrats and ghetto welfare queens too?

Most military tards never get anywhere near risking their life. Most of the ones who do, aren't qualified for anything else. The smart people move up to officer fast, and spend all their time in meetings and behind a desk.

Want to know a profession far more dangerous than the military? Cab driver. Do you "respect" them and salute their selfless service to others? You should - they're fighting to survive in the free market, without all the free cheese guaranteed to every government employee in the military.

Yeah I know, kinda on a Patriotic high from my daughter just getting out, she earned 5 medals, 8 ribbons and her anti warfare pin all in 4 years. Part of what she did was render aid to the Philippines after a big storm that knocked out a whole city. A modern aircraft carrier has two reactors. One can power the ship, the other can be used to power a city, it made all the water the city needed and did surgeries on those that needed it, and provided an airport to land planes with supplies. She got a humanitarian medal for that.

She got a good conduct too, something I didn't get, hehehe

Navy -- 1988 to 1992 -- I served during desert storm, but I don't call myself a vet of that war, because I was on a Naval Air Base in Hawaii.

First things first. Thank you for paying your taxes, I can definitely respect that and I am not trying to be clever here, I mean it.

Second, you are certainly under no obligation to respect me for my time in the military. However I ask that you do respect the military as a whole. While recent events have soured many in the public views on the arm services, they do perform a necessary job that honestly has provided the US with a lot of what Americans take for granted today ad allowed our influence (both positive and negative) to spread worldwide.

this is not a blowjob to the flag by the way, merely a statement of fact.

Those of us who did serve in the military, for the most part, believed in this country and what she stands for enough to take an oath to be willing to put our own lives in jeopardy in defense of it.

It does not matter one bit if we were put in the line of fire or not, we were all willing to be put there. In my opinion this does not make any of us heros. They are people who responded in ways most people could not comprehend in situations most people cannot imagine. That title is earned... I have not earned it

I probably have not earned any respect from you either, after all, what have I done directly related to you. It's ok for you to not respect individual service members based on whatever reasons you may have for it. But being an American citizen and being able to pay those incredibly high taxes and enjoy the freedoms to scream and yell about anything that twists your short hairs.... those rights were paid for in blood by this generation and generations before. So I humbly ask that you try to respect The US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard. The members of whom do not know who you are, but are willing to risk their lives so that you may live free.

Does that fucking troll even deserve an answer?

No trolls ever deserve answers. They only deserve to be trolled once in a while and then left to chew their own gristle while nobody replies.

My dad served in the air force in the 1950's, stationed on Guam. Then worked on SAGE and other IBM FSD projects all of his life.

I worked for a time on B52 and B1B computer boards at a manufacturing plant.

I'll bet you get less respect in real life than you do on internet message board.

normally I would agree with you. But I know lot of people will silently agree with what he said. I think it is just a bit of short sightedness. So I felt it appropriate to let him know that honestly no reasonable person will expect him to respect every single person who put on a uniform, but as a whole the military has paid the price for him to have what he has

Had Marines at the gates in Key Waste and Bermuda. I always got along with them fine until I found out that their job was, if we were attacked, after we destroyed all the secret shit, their job was to kill us. They had m16s for that purpose while we had .45s and a couple of riot guns. That didn't make for nice friendly times at the corner bar..lol.

So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

That's nice, you got a job with salary, benefits, training, free food, free clothing, free housing and free healthcare. Odds are, you didn't do anything especially useful. You were a tail, not a tooth.

How is it you "served your country" and you think you're entitled to respect? I serve my country every fucking year, to the tune of $80K+ in federal taxes. That's four months out of every year I work for my country instead of myself. When are YOU going to thank ME for my service... especially since I helped pay your salary?

They put their ass on the line for all of us. I couldn't imagine being in a desert in full gear when it is 120 degrees or being shot at. They have earned respect for being brave and protecting us. You sir can go fuck off.
