I Hope Rand Paul Stands Firm On All Of His Positions

I hope he does not compromise with his fellow congressmen on ANYTHING he truly believes in.

Now THAT would be fun to watch!

Politicians rarely stick to what they promised once they're in power. What ever side of the room or country they came from.

The fun part would be all the apologists who make excuses for him, that he had to do it because of those evil liberals.

He has already said he will work with people. There is a lot of what he says that both sides can agree on. It should be fun to watch anyway.

He says he wants to balance the budget while keeping the tax cuts. Let's see how that goes.

He also has no answers regarding foreign policy. Avoids it like the plague.

I don't think a guy from Kentucky can relate to people who live in the more populated areas of this country, or people from other countries for that matter. There is a huge divide. It is no one's fault, it is just a fact.

For example: If you live in Manhattan you are subjected to all sorts of people and cultures from all over the world. On the other hand, when your entire life consists of just socializing with the people in your sparsely populated area, then statements like: you can use chickens to trade your doctor for medical care, and the like, even though I know that wasn't a Rand Paul statement, is still a different mindset.

Country folk don't trust city folk or government. They have a sense of community, they have guns, they grow food, they are usually more religious, etc.

If all of your friends and family are white Christians, then maybe you just don't trust Blacks, Jews, Muslims, etc.

I would probably feel the same way if I grew up there, as people are uncomfortable with the unfamiliar, but like everything else, a balance is required.

A person in the middle of Chicago without healthcare will not find a doctor to trade his chickens with, and likely does not have any chickens to begin with, etc.

People need to work towards uniting this country soon. Too many corporations benefit from the divide, and fan the flames, but there are WAY more people than there are elected officials of corporate CEOs, and we need to work together to fix the "People's America" and start fighting the corporate ownership of America.

Worked well for Warren Harding. He took office after the Panic of '21. GDP was down nearly 20% and unemployment was over 12%. He cut government by ~50%, cut taxes and cut the national debt by 1/3rd. Unemployment was cut in half in 1 year and down to 2.4% in 2 years.

He was pretty specific about things that could be done and questions that need to be debated in Congress.

It's not a fact. It's your opinion and it shows your ignorance.

...but how about someone from a hick Arkansas town of ~10,000 people? Someone like Bill Clinton. How about Jimmy Carter? Did you like him? He is from a redneck town in Georgia with less than 1,000 people.

Rand Paul was born in Pittsburgh anyways...

For someone espousing on the multiculturalism of the North you sure sound close minded and full of stereotypes.

Nothing wrong with corporation or CEOs. Everything wrong with Corporatism and I am sure that Rand Paul would argue the same.

Rand seems to me that his best strategy would be to stick to his guns and run for president in 2012 if all goes well

I don't think he's ever been in the country
I was born in LA, I grew up their, in the Navy I got to see the world, but last night I looked up and saw stars he didn't see , went for a walk and saw a family of deer about 1/2 mile from my house.
In town we have one of the best heart surgery hospitals in the state, we have one of the biggest dams in the country. And a 23 million dollar walking bridge is in town.

So his explaination of country vs city? The only thing I've noticed is people in the city have no clue about the country unless they have lived there and people in the country? Most have lived in the city and know better

I didn't reply to this post for an argument, but okay... so what worked in 1921 will work today then? And wasn't 1921 just seven years before the great depression? Sounds like a great plan! [/sarcasm]

If it worked before why would it not work again? Taking on massive amounts of debt, debasing ones currency and bailing out banks has never worked, yet that is that route we are going...

And Harding died in, I believe it was, 1923, while still in office. No one blames him for the Great Depression and in fact many say that the Great Depression should have been handled the same way Harding handled the Panic of 1921 and if it had been the Great Depression would have ended much sooner.

How many chickens does your local heart surgeon charge for an operation?

Yet we are making all the same progressive mistakes again. And people wonder why Obama's recovery plan has fallen flat on its face.

“The money power preys on the nation in times of peace, and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. It denounces, as public enemies, all who question its methods or throw light upon its crimes.” - Abraham Lincoln

From GQ:
The strangest episode of Paul's time at Baylor occurred one afternoon in 1983 (although memories about all of these events are understandably a bit hazy, so the date might be slightly off), when he and a NoZe brother paid a visit to a female student who was one of Paul's teammates on the Baylor swim team.

According to this woman, who requested anonymity because of her current job as a clinical psychologist, "He and Randy came to my house, they knocked on my door, and then they blindfolded me, tied me up, and put me in their car. They took me to their apartment and tried to force me to take bong hits. They'd been smoking pot."

After the woman refused to smoke with them, Paul and his friend put her back in their car and drove to the countryside outside of Waco, where they stopped near a creek. "They told me their god was 'Aqua Buddha' and that I needed to bow down and worship him," the woman recalls. "They blindfolded me and made me bow down to 'Aqua Buddha' in the creek. I had to say, 'I worship you Aqua Buddha, I worship you.'

At Baylor, there were people actively going around trying to save you and we had to go to chapel, so worshiping idols was a big no-no."

Let's pray that Aqua-Buddha watches over and protects the little sprout...

Sometimes it's not even about breaking promises is they find that once they are in office, they have to play the game to get anything done...so while they may have ran with the best of intentions, they find it's not as easy as snapping your fingers and having things go your way.

hmm, is this the begining?

from back in March...
Rand Paul has made a ban on wasteful earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign. He has supported Sen. Jim DeMint's vocal support for an earmark ban and he supports news that House Democrats are even coming around on the idea of a partial ban.

and from this past weekends WSJ...
In a bigger shift from his campaign pledge to end earmarks, he tells me that they are a bad "symbol" of easy spending but that he will fight for Kentucky's share of earmarks and federal pork...
