Anyone getting spam virus e-mail from Mary Camacho?

They keep coming in like right after the other, how do you block this shit and is it harmless if I just delete them right away (not opening them of course) ?

Do you just let them come through to your e-mail and then delete them or do you block them from coming in at all?

For the last year, I've 'previewed' all my headers first using a program called MailWasher. It automatically marks emails containing a virus for deletion. It can be set to run a check against the major email blacklists and set any matching email for deletion. It also allows you to send an email back to anyone you select that looks like a bounced email from your host...ie..they'll think your email account doesn't exist.

There are several approaches.

First and foremost, it sounds like you're not using a good virus blocker like Norton (though I'm currently using Panda Titanium from Panda Software (http://www.pandasoftware.com/) and am quite happy with it.

If you repeatedly get any unwanted e-mail from the same source, with the same subject line, or with the same text in the body, many software readers have features allowing such stuff to be intercepted and deleted before you even see it. For example, in Outlook Express, there is Tools>Message Rules>Mail; in Nescape, it's Tools>Message Filters.

We run MailScanner on our servers and it knocks out about 90% of these things.

Also we will look at the headers of repeated ones and spam and just add them to the servers hosts.deny and mail related blocks. Can be a full time job some days.

I don't just want the mail program to deny the message from coming though. I want the messages to get off the server and not sit there. As long as it isn't hurting the server to have those kinds of messages going through it, I can just delete them when they come into my Outlook Express.

The mailwasher program doesn't leave the emails on your server unless you tell it to. You pass through once and retrieve all the headers. Mark the ones for deletion, you don't want (the program marks the ones containing a virus or from the blackmail list). Then you tell the program to process the mail. It sends 'bounced' messages to those you designated (causing many of those people to automatically remove you from their spam lists), it deletes the messages from the server that you don't want. Then you download the messages you do want in your email program.
