Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr. don't play any commercials but for their own shows.

That is one thing that I LOVE!

CamJack 11-04-2010 08:40 AM

I did it 10+ years and woke up and realized my holidays weren't mine anymore. People get jealous and resort to guilt to motivate you. You end up becoming divided with your partner and need a vacation from your vacation.

This year, I am divorced, taking my two boys to a Sandals resort prior to Xmas. This year its all about me. Do the same.

Kids are better the older they get. My 9 year old is on facebook and watches football with me...best time ever. My two year old is a walking death trap, no rest.

I'm going to San Fran in a week for 10 days..I'll save it for then.

im tired of hearing people say they want kids so they can have someone there for them when they grow old.. go to a retirement home and see thousands of old people who have kids and their kids disappeared..

what makes u think ur kid will want to take care of u when you are old? chances are they will send u to a retirement home and call u once in a while to check up on u

as for me im not having kids, i think its selfish unless i can guarantee the kid a 100% easy life.. who wants to work their whole life and worry about shit? im sure tons of people wish they were never born...

and i think its stupid to have kids when u barely have enough money to support yourself... anyway the world is too over populated.. we need to stop popping out babies..

Why on earth would you want your child to have a 100% easy life? Good life, of course, better than yours, that's a common desire of parents. But 100% easy?

A lot of what you said is true. But to be negative about your children abandoning you isn't reason enough for everyone to not have kids. Sounds like you've seen too many negative experiences, I can relate to that.

I also know many older people who raised well balanced humans and enjoy many years of happy family time. That's what I am going for. :)

Because sometimes life is so tough, you just don't wish that on anyone, especially your kids! However as I have gotten older, and through the rough spots, I appreciate my life experience and wisdom and want my offspring to learn too.

The hardest part is watching that, but life is full of hard knocks and it is what makes us who we are.

Exactly, kids have, like any other, reference drift.

The only difference is that kids can't control and don't know about limits.

Common sense from parents is crucial in not getting a hyperactive, demanding, spoiled brat.

It's shit like this that is a prime example of why humans are worthless now. If you have a child you want them to not try to be successful and want them to do nothing? I would hate to have you for a father.

you can't give it to them too easy. they'll just become entitlement assholes who think everything should just be handed to them and they won't love you for it. they'll just expect it. self success builds self esteem.

Good thread Sarah :)

Oh man the stories I could tell....

Being a dad of 5 girls has been great but alot of dang work.....

My kids are 9, almost 17, almost 18, 19, and 23

It seemed as they all got older it was a drama house all day and night.

Disney and Pbs are very good for them to watch. I also make my youngest watch natgeo, discovery, science, etc

She really gets mad when we have to watch cspan together :)

You seem like you grew up in a good family with good parents - I am sure when you have a child sometime, you will raise him or her just fine.

Enjoy San Fran :)

sextoyking 11-04-2010 01:47 PM

Here is a pic of the 4 kids - my oldest isn't in it.

I am the ugly one there, hahaha :)

I know you to be a good father too Todd :)

I don't have any real plans to be a parent but I have become determined to fill the 'eccentric aunt from England' role for my sister's kids.

While I agree that I wouldn't want to bring a child into this world that I couldn't feed and take care of, and I would want my child to have a good life, if I had the money I wouldn't just hand it to them on a silver platter. If they had everything handed to them and never had to work, I can't imagine how they would turn out. If you work hard for something you can appreciate it more, and if you grew up without having everything you can appreciate when you ARE able to have possessions that your parents never had or that you never had growing up. Even if they had everything handed to them, they would expect that and think that was normal, and would always want more. As far as the world's population ... it's generally the people in the world who are less able to afford kids who have more, and the more affluent people generally have less. But having said all that it's everyone's choice and their own logic about whether to have kids or not, even if everyone doesn't agree with your reasons :)

czarina 11-04-2010 02:23 PM

I just dont watch TV with my son. We play hide and seek, we practice our karate moves, we paint stuff, do crafts and go for walks.

From all the posts you write here about ballin, this isn't what I expected to hear from you at all i figured you're thoughts would be like 50's..

have a baby by me; baby
be a millionaire
I write the check before the babies comes,
who the fuck cares
im stanky rich
ima dye tryna spend this shit

xxweekxx 11-04-2010 02:47 PM

well damn thats why i said i dont wanna have kids. im gonna spoil the mofo... so its pointless..

i worked hard, my dad didnt spoil me, but im not gonna sit there and make millions while my kid struggles in a studio apartment working 50hrs a week to make rent.. or he drives around in a beat up honda while im rolling in a ferrari..

hence the reason i wont have kids, i dont see a point..

Dead 11-04-2010 05:13 PM

No, but it appears as the mama does;) Beautiful Family Man!!!

You can never love another persons baby like your own. I think the time spent is nervous, and a bit scary with the responsibility of watching anothers child. Enjoy your time spent, they grow fast!

scubadiver626 11-04-2010 05:53 PM

After you have kids, super special hormones kick in that help you cope.

We have a 4yo boy and 3yo girl. If you cant to have a nanny, DONT DO IT!

We have 2 TV's and a kids pc in almost every room. We're raising them in Asia and split our time in the USA and we love it to be honest. Its hard at times, but $ helps.

My wise grandma once said, money isnt everything, but it almost is!

lagcam 11-04-2010 05:56 PM

I will never understand people posting pictures of their kids on GFY.

MikeSmoke 11-05-2010 02:53 AM

Nick Jr. rules. Our 2 year old is constantly coming up with new concepts or understandings out of seemingly nowhere --- and then we realize it was from a show or an educational short she saw a few months earlier.

She's also now splitting her time (her TV time, that is - not ALL of her time, of course) with Disney movies (and Elmo); sometimes Cinderella seems to be the only movie in our house.

Luckily, we avoid Disney TV (except when she's visiting her cousin) - Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is perhaps the worst example ever of trying to update an old TV show.

But she's learning the basics of music and dance from Nick Jr. (with guidance from us, of course); she'll shortly be getting her real piano, which she really, really wants - and dance lessons which will take her beyond spinning and "busting moves" She's also getting a trampoline, which we hope will save our couches and chairs from total destruction ;)

The REAL downside? The same shows and songs every day, every month, every year - we're about to enter our fourth year of those same shows and songs. And they can NEVER be driven from your brain. NEVER. The kids will never remember them. We'll still be singing them when the kids are visiting us in the nursing home. ARRRRRgh :helpme

Herb Kornfield 11-05-2010 06:06 AM

I have a 12 and a 14 year old (Both Girls) ... They are great kids and really nice to be around. The biggest challenge is this is the time their friends are really starting to veer onto some "bad" paths ( Drinking, drugs, etc ) that were trying to keep them from.

Lately both have been studying computers alot more and both want to work in IT networking ( as I do in my day gig ) .... Let's just hope they stay on point, which should be possible. Mom is an RN and she's all over the girls to stay focused.

quiet 11-05-2010 06:13 AM

i would go out tonight, but i haven't got a stitch to wear.
