I just seen this Chinese made tablet that ran Android OS for 177.00 that looked nearly identical to an iPad, probably the same manufacturer. Fuck Apple and their everything is 1k or more mentality. They could make so much more money if they released OS X and brought down the price tag a little bit. I mean fuck the hardware is basically identical now, there is nothing special about Apples anymore aside the logo.
what do you use to type? if you attach a keyboard whats the difference between that and a laptop?
I don't get it, other than using it for reading I don't understand the use...
i use lots of apps on it,
games, twitter, watch movies, reading (converted a lot of pdf content over to epub format to read on ipad) , vpn to other machines, analytics for sites, recipes for cooking, etc.
got about 200 apps installed for my ipad

I was designing a site for one, so borrowed my dads, just to check it out live.
It's nice, not sure I want to get raped by apples euro pricing though, its painful.
I love it and I don't even own an iPad. That's how strong the love is with iPad owners. It overflows.
LOL!!!

While I'm not a huge advocate for the IPAD, those Chinese tablets that sell for under $200 don't hold a candle to them.
They don't have 3g capability, A4 1ghz processors, axis movements, the same responsive heat touch technology, the screens run a much lower resolution, are not glass and are smaller, much less battery life and most importantly, they run on android 1.6, (not virtually as many apps).
That being said, I think the IPAD is more of a novelty item. They have some pretty nice games and if you can custom fit it into the dash of your car it beats the hell out of any in-dash deck.
Conversation with my ten year old kid last night as I was tucking into bed....
Daughter: "Is it true that the Ipad doesn't use flash Daddy?"
Me: "You are correct. Isn't that odd?"
Daughter: "So in other words I can't play Club Penguin or any of my other games, huh?"
Silent pause.
Daughter: "Well that's useless."
I kid you not my ten year old kid doesn't even want one because the games she plays the most uses flash, and without flash all it can do is email for her. Oh, email and iTunes.

This is how misinformation is transferred from person to person. The apple app store is one of the most comprehensive on the planet for that genre.
Keep in mind that developers have ported and are porting the more popular flash games into apps that run on that platform. The argument that was proposed is similar to someone saying that the xbox or the playstation is useless because a few games that they like are not available on the other console.
Don't encourage such close-mindedness in your kid in regards to technology.
By the way, Skyfire is releasing a solution this month that will kill the "lack of flash" issue that some persons tout as their reason for not wanting an iPad.
In effect, Flash is coming to the iPad, believe it.
I love it. I use it even more than I thought I would. Perfect for random surfing while at home. Perfect for travel. Perfect for education games for the kids. Perfect for board games like scrabble to pass the time or play with friends. Porn looks good on it too.
It's a shame this its totally worthless when in the sun.
Not necessarily, unless you want to sit in a position where the sun is glaring directly down on the screen. In that instance it should be noted that many other electronic device screens such as laptops and even some phones also become useless in direct sunlight.
If you feel that you absolutely must read under those conditions, simply turn the brightness up manually and the daytime viewing problem will be solved. Just make sure to switch it back to automatic when you get indoors. That setting affects battery life.
The battery life is great. i often will watch a few hours of netflix, use it for browsing, reading my books, email
and at the end of the day still have battery life to spare.
typical full use day for me i will go to bed and have 40% battery life left if i use it heavy. on light days i will have 75% at teh end of the day.
i love mine and use it for everything except my typical working, though i do have a bluetooth keyboard and on the road use it to work.

I'd have to agree that the battery life is great. I was sooooo surprised. I watched movies and TV on the plane for 3 hours and it used like 8% of my battery. Way better than my iPhone.
Worth every penny. I will be getting the next generation in '11 as well. Everyone in my family uses it every day (me, wife, 2 little ones). I usually get my turn at night while winding down watching TV on the couch - primarily for the internet, checking email and lots of fun games.
It also serves as a spare TV and flawlessly receives wireless Netflix everywhere in my house. I works awesome on my treadmill in the garage (it rests securely up front on a ledge and plugs into the treadmill speakers). I'm currently working my way through Dexter while jogging.

I'd sooner get one of those chinese knockoffs that run android. They have more features and cost 1/5th what the ipad does.
We have one of those CherryPads here running Android.
- when you turn it on, it's like booting up a PC -- it takes that long (and i'm not talking about turning it on for the first time either)
- it is extremely slow
- the colors are waaaaaaaaay off (at least in the browser)
- the touch screen isn't very sensitive and requires pressure... terrible for typing
That was just 5 mins worth of playing around, I had had enough
For the price, I guess it's not that bad, but it is not comparable to the ipad.
It's a shame this its totally worthless when in the sun.
I use mine in the sun all the time, i just turn up the brightness

I've loved my ipad from day one! When I bought it I went in thinking it would be a nice gadget I could surf with from the couch and didn't buy into the "ipad does everything you could ever want it to do and could replace your laptop".
The battery life is 10+ hours of hard use so it's great for carrying around the house and never worrying about the battery.
It is not a laptop replacement and I've made it a point not to try out some of the advanced apps that make it more like a laptop. I simply use it for surfing while cooking or watching tv. It goes to bed with me and is used for it's ipod. I wake up a few times a night and can check my stats/ emails without getting out of bed. Before my ipad I had one of my 17" laptops in front of me on a tv tray whenever I watched tv and having to look around the laptop can be a pain.
The ipad has made my life more relaxing and enjoyable for sure but I wouldn't go without my laptops or my android phone for one.
Been using 4.2 GM on the iPad for the last few days. Far more useful with the update. No need to knock the iPad for not supporting flash, I can't think of one single mobile device that plays and functions correctly with flash sites, outside of a laptop of course. 10.1 on mobile was horrible.

It looks great for reading but all those other things can be done on a 300 dollar laptop, plus you can text your friends, get some work done, watch flash and type without getting hand cramps trying to angle up to your ipad...
i don't know, i just don't get it. A touch screen would just slow me down from what I am used to.

My 9-year-old son was all about the Flash based games too, until someone sent me an iPad. The apps for kids are pretty amazing, and plenty of them are free. He also watches tons of YouTube videos on it (have you seen the very strange "Fred" channel?). My son uses it WAY more than I do. At this point I consider it a very expensive kid toy.
