    $15 Per Gallon for Gas

Imagine $15 Per Gallon for Gas
That Is, If You Can Even Get It...

"I can't imagine anyone here wanting to spend another $30 billion to be there (Iraq) for another 12 years." -Paul Wolfowitz, February 2003.

Gas Prices Climbing Toward $5 Per Gallon

    Hawaii is $4.50 per gallon

CHICAGO (CBS) ? At one time, $5 per gallon gas seemed like a far-fetched idea, but that is no longer the case.

As of Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the Chicago area is $4.11, compared with $3.71 a month ago, and about $3.10 a gallon at this time a year ago.

Some experts say $5 per gallon gas is possible by Memorial Day-or sometime in summer. Others caution that reaching that mark is unlikely over the next six weeks. In Chicago, the prices keep rising to near-record levels?with no relief in sight.

The Lundberg Survey says the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded as of Monday was $3.76. That is up 19 cents since March 18, and up 91 cents since this time last year.

The sharply rising prices hearken back memories of the summer of 2008.

That year, oil prices were driven well above $100 per barrel, and in June of that year and gas prices were well over $4 a gallon. The highest average record price was $4.34 per gallon, set July 2008.

No one is eager to break that record. But with no end in sight to the turmoil in the Middle East, analysts say we?re likely to do just that ? and just as holiday travelers hit the highways for Memorial Day weekend

You can thank the crap/scare Libya just put us through. And the best part .. the loss of oil production from them was easily made up by the other countries.

God love speculators and market manipulators. Someones getting ridiculously rich right now off this.

Easy way to beat them at their own game.

Change your lifestyle for 2 months. Car pool, take a train, take a bus, bike or walk.

      For two months.

If a few million more americans did this oil would be down to 70 bucks a barrel in no time flat. This would also send a strong message that if they choose to artificially inflate prices to make a buck then they will be met with equal and opposite force.

Also its really great to change up your habits once in a while, adds some variety to life.

Yep sooo true.. But it would still cost the people as the oil companies would ask for and get more subsidies from the Government.

Imagine waking up and suddenly there was no gas? It happened in Phoenix in 2003.

Turns out gas is piped into Phoenix, and when that pipeline broke there was no way to get gas to Phoenix quick enough to meet the demand. Gas stations started shutting down because they had no gas. I was lucky and noticed problems early on, filled up all my cars, and even filled up a few containers. But for about two or three weeks there was no gas to be bought in Phoenix. People couldn't go to work.

Thank the speculators, that's the true reason for the increase in gas prices. The middle east issues are just the spark that gets the money makes going on the old stocks and futures.

Gas here in Vancouver is $1.32 a litre.

                    1 Gallon ~ 3.8 Litres. = ~$5 CAD a gallon.

Also your money is worth less, so that's about $5.15US a gallon.

There's no real reason other than "they can" that prices are up now. Might be time to get a bike and some comfortable walking shoes and offset some of this nonsense.

I hope gas goes up to $15/gallon. Get the alternative energy industry kicked into high gear.

Besides, wasn't gas in the US at $4/gallon about 2.5 years ago? Why is it such a huge shock for everyone this time around?

Fuck, americans act like if it hits $5/gal the world will look like in mad max, and we'll all be in an epic battle in the desert for petrol. Europe has functioned fine for years with $8-10/gal. You'll all live. Don't worry...

                              In Denmark I think it's $8.19 per 9/10s of a gallon.

the news media is freaking lost.

this weekend i paid 4.63 per gallon in Calabasas.

                                      highest i've seen this year.

the 4.63 was probably for premium juice though, not regular mans octane
i havent seen 4.63 regular here in calabasas or woodland hills yet

Not really. I remember in 1966 or 67 my civics teacher, Mr Larimer, telling us that we would see it in our lifetimes. I used to go home with, "Mr Larimer says," so much it would piss my parents off.

Now, it turns out he was right.

Oil should be around $60/barrel right now. The problem is the markets are totally fake.

Everyone with spare cash invests in commodities these days, that's why food and oil prices are skyrocketing out of control. In the past, only the people involved in those industries invested in those markets, which actually worked to keep prices stable. Now, every bank, hedge fund, and secret fund all invest in food and oil and other commodities which artificially increases the price.

Using less oil will have zero effect on price. Supply and demand doesn't apply to most commodity markets anymore in the traditional sense.

europeans are always saying "it's been 8 a gallon here for a long time" but the difference is, the USA was built for driving, and the cars in it were built for cheap gas.

Only in the most densely populated areas of the US is it even remotely possible to get along without a car.

I am pretty sure that in those 8/gl countries the average person pays way less than the average American for gas on a per/capita basis. They save the money by just NOT DRIVING. In the USA we don't really have that option. Well, work from home webmasters do, but not regular working people and 9 to 5'ers.

Price of gas rose by 300% from 1998 to 2011. There was more opportunity to make money on the Internet in 1998, as well.

If a few million more americans did this oil would be down to 70 bucks a barrel in no time flat. This would also send a strong message that if they choose to artificially inflate prices to make a buck then they will be met with equal and opposite force.

Also its really great to change up your habits once in a while, adds some variety to life.
you sure? i know plenty of people who don't drive anywhere anymore because they don't have enough money for gas. i'm pretty sure its not isolated to people i know either. i also don't see gas prices going down because of this in fact they keep going up.

also try telling that to people who have to commute to work and don't know coworkers that work near them. it's simply not feasible and basically oil companies have a monopoly. they go over there to the middle east take over and control the market. make record profits and flip everyone else the bird because you can't do shit about it.

Good! Hopefully that would be the tipping point to finally begin the END of fossil fuels. By reaching a "killer" price point, renewable and cleaner alternatives would become economical and the increased usage would create ECONOMIES OF SCALE. End result--alternatives become cheaper while fossil fuel is used less and less. Good for farmers too--divert more petrol to fertilizer manufacturing and sink the price. More food, cheaper and cleaner fuel.

Of course, getting there is PAINFUL.
