What is UK and Irelands legal attitute towards porn and adult related services? - GoFuckYourself.com

Like the headline suggests, what challenges do businesses based in the UK and Ireland face when offering adult related products and services?

I'd especially love to hear from webmasters that are residents or citizens of these countries.

I don't know how about Ireland, but in the UK you may buy porn everywhere, you may also buy plastic dick or have a nice hooker in every bigger town, all legit..

i presume you refer to southern irland/repubic of irland.

i am not sure of laws there, though they as the uk are in the eu, so eu law has a big play.

in the uk porn films are now legal. this is only in the last few years (due to a big legal case).

however porn films (such as dvd's) that are porn (r18) have to be sold in licenced sex shops and not mail order (a bit pathetic realy).

porn on the net is fine. give or take uk and usa laws on what is and is not ok are basicly the same.

in some ways uk law is relaxed as you do not need id or the models. but most people (inc myself) get two forms of id plus model release.

All films (inc non porn) must go through the film sensers (at a cost of £2k or more). though porn on the net is as yet not included though one suspects they will try to make people.

in recent years some s and m stuff has become illigall, as it was sugested it was the result of s and m porn in a recent legal case. though later it was found it had not been used.

all actors must by law be 18 or older.

EU legislation on privacy can make it difficult to comply with 2257 regulations as the privacy of those appearing on your website should be protected.
However, the opposite applies to the owner of the site. As an EU webmaster, you are supposed to offer correct, full contact details on all your sites.

But a good lawyer will tell you exactly how to comply with these sometimes conflicting elements.

And yes. Stay away from BDSM if you are at all unsure whether or not it fits new UK rulings.

What never seems to get mentioned is eu virtual child pornography laws (non-existant in the USA). This defines kiddy porn as anyone who 'looks' like an under 18, even a cartoon or a drawing of a person.

I don't know how the hell it is interpreted, legally, and whether or not any uk or european webmasters have got into trouble over it yet. But obviously a lot of the American 'barely legal' stuff would be in danger of falling foul of it.

Ireland is a lot more conservative than the UK and they're likely to swing further now that the economy is in the toilet, they even put blasphemy laws back on the books...

Stay away from anything extreme and you're fine for now. As for bringing in licensing of Internet Porn as they do shop sold porn that's a throw of the dice. Easy enough to move across the Channel to France or Holland if that happens.
