I don't understand why some of these designers will work for peanuts! So you live in the middle of a poverty stricken country. You are LOSING money. Why not spend some time working on your designs to make them worth more than what you are charging?
Half (or more than half even) of the "design companies" out there have less than a year of experience in the industry... and no idea what really converts a paysite. Hell, most of 'em can't speak english!

It's kind of like paying someone who has only tinkered with engines to fix your car. If you want it done right, go to a Mechanic... He'll get it working the first time, and save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run.

country here> and will never spend US prices with this guy.

back in the day, I could count all the adult designers on one hand.

today, forget about it.. it's handfull of good adult designers amidst a sea of clone jockeys.

Speak for yourself, but my business is going VERY well. I just hired my 7th FULL time salaried designer. As for speaking more languages than me.. are you sure? I've lived in many places and know enough to get me by in several languages(maybe not totally fluent) but what does it matter? English is the only language I need for my business. For others to compete in this market, they better know english as well.

word.... the new designer model seems to be, if you can't do quality, do it for pennies. For some reason, that's appealing to alot of people.... although I'll never know why.

You've said it!

I am not claiming that all these foreign designers aren't good. I have 1 russian designer on staff, and he does DAMN good work. We do most of the text for him... However.. He DOES have experience in this industry, and he takes guidance from me, or Ryan(my Project Manager).

There are plenty of GOOD designers in this industry... the problem is they are just that, a good designer... They know nothing about how to sell the product.
Pretty design isn't everything... it's one piece to the whole puzzle.

All the kudos to you then.....so there is no reason to put down
others in favor of yourself. As for price/quality in some cases
that´s true....allthough there are exceptions to every rule...
and not every webmaster have same budgets and not every
project requires a topnotch designer to get the job done.

Putting down others in favor of yourself is just a bad marketing
technique used WAY too often....that´s all I tried to say here..

You are correct, you don't need a top notch design for everything. A free site or an AVS site or a TGP site does not have to be done on a large budget. BUT.. when dealing with paysites you either have to know VERY WELL what you are targetting( and explain in every detail to the designer what you want) or you have to be willing to pay the extra for someone who knows. If you don't, you are shooting yourself in the foot!

I am not putting down any designer directly. I just called the group as a whole rediculous. Under-pricing your work will not help you. You will still be a "starving artist." The same people who jump for the cheap designs are usually the ones without a lot of experience themeselves. They will happily accept your work without really critiquing it for what's in their best interests. In other words... "MONEY THROWN INTO THE FIREPLACE.. IT'S WASTED"

Don't get me wrong.. Noone wants to pay more than they have to for something... but it takes time and experience to understand what a quality design is really worth to you. MikeW charges more than anyone else out there and he is booked solid. Webinc is nolonger the cheapest and they are booked solid... The same with my company. Why?? Because of experience and proven ability to our clients.

I think this is a bit hasty, I think it's normal to be incredulous when someone is doing it for a third to a quarter of the normal price and offers two portfolio designs that were designed for himself as turnkeys and not client work and people are ready to throw one of the most important aspect of conversion at them.

this is more looking objectively than say anything about scorpio - he's not bad and im sure the client will be happy with his work. congrats on scoring the job.

but too many people seem to forget that it can only take a hun listing's worth of signups to make up the difference between an Amp design and someone offering cheap stuff once it's completed.. and if one converts even 5% better than the other then you've pissed away a long term gain for a short term one.

I think this is the point - it's not about self-aggrandising by putting others down.

professionals shouldn't be concerned - these guys have to do four times the work for the same amount of money and the good clients will always be out of their reach because of the quality someone getting more cash can and will provide.
