The only thing I really want to own is a negro, and I hear you're not allowed to own those anymore.

And you're 100% right about being "great" because of what you do (not how much money you have). But for most people (not talking about folks who inherited money), the money you make and the things you own are the direct result of how much ass you kick at what you do.

So yeah...I COULD see a multi-millionaire walking around in rags and not "bragging" because he's eccentric. But I've never seen a poor person driving around in a nice car and living in a 5,000 square foot home lounging in his pool (unless he's "newly" poor and just lost everything and on his way to eviction).

I think that the people who inherit money and come from "old" money like that are the ones who don't brag or show off. It's just natural to them.

But most people like me who busted ass to make it happen? I'm proud of my accomplishments. Especially in this kind of business where I'm working alone in my office with nobody to slap me on the back and say "good job".

So yeah, it does feel kinda good to have people say "Nice car!" or "I love your house". I know, it sound dumb and shallow (it is), but I'm only human.
You deserve to feel good about those things.

the west, the money is purely based off a facade, it is pure debt. rampant debt also, not controllable. and when dollars are worth next to nothing and food triples in price people are going to realize why it was so bad taking out all those loans.

by taking out massive loans x by a country wide x global wide scale. you are basically enslaving yourself and people further into a system.

yes times are good now. but there is no guarantees. if people would live a more balanced life there would never need to be a need for a recession.

and i dont mean you dont deserve nice things if you work for them. i mean they should not represent you. for me i came from humble beginnings and the older i get the more i realize i dont need "things" to make me happy.

the grind of work is to be successful in my own life. my work is my full time hobby. but i dont want to end result to show people how great i am.

in fact i want an island with a sports car far away from anyone that would even for 2 seconds all of a sudden give me a pat on the back for "making it".

          question for you:
          --------------
why does it feel good when people tell you "nice car" if you already know it is nice? maybe there is a deeper insecurity where you really do not know if it is nice or not. you just were told it is "nice" and feel better about yourself based on others blind validation.

In a case like that it's much different. You're not actually showing off. People are just saying these things to you and, like most people, it makes you feel good. It gives you a greater sense of accomplishment. You work hard for what you have and it's nice to hear things like this once in awhile, but if you walked around like you were the greatest thing and throwing all your money and things you own in peoples faces that would make you one on the people that Metaman was talking about.

I agree with doing business without debt. I am not in debt right now.
The Balance Sheet usually looks something like this:

                    Assets - Liabilities = Owner's Equity

Different business companies (or your personal finances) can be compared based on who has more Owner's Equity. Businesses can also compete based on: who is more liquid (more cash), who has better assets (house, car, supplies, inventory, etc.) and who has better human resources (employees, customers, clients, friends, etc.) Good luck.

true... very true. i know a lot of people who are way over their heads in credit card debt and loans.

I really don't get it though, why would you go out and just rack things up in a retarded manner on a credit card? I carry around 3 cards... My Amex charge, BofA debit and Amex credit card. The credit card has a $0 balance on it and i ONLY have it in case of an emergency

However, I do have both a car loan and a home loan. The car loan is 3 years with 1 year left and the home loan is 30 years but getting paid off in 14 but I didn't go over my head at all with those and knew exactly how much I wanted to spend and calculated interest + principle to see what the price would be of buying a car on a 3 year loan

well, there are four ways to measure your success:
                          your house
                          your car
                          your shoes
                          the beauty of your wife/girlfriend

like or hate it, that's the basic truth

people equate having stuff with being happy/successful. people have been taught to be consumers, it's a shame. the more stuff you have the more stuff you have to worry about.
