Starship Troopers

Watching it now on cable.

Lots of people say that it sucks but I get a big kick out of it. Naturally, it was a loser at the box office but it is like one of my "comfort" movies; a flick I can watch again and again but still enjoy it every time!

It's an incredible movie - I've seen it many times already. Scary, Gory and Violet as hell, and fucking funny too. My favourite part is the bug attack on the little compound. What's cool is that the CGI Monsters still look pretty good 13 years later.

If you love Starship troopers, you will of course love Robocop. Same directory (Paul Verhoeven), same writer (Edward Neumeier ), and every bit as funny and violent. For an extra treat, look for the Criteron collection "X-rated" version of Robocop. It's not X-rated for boobies, it's X-rated for violence.

Starship troopers 2 is a total piece of shit. Don't waste your time or your money. I heard that #3 is better but I never saw it.

Good to know its worth watching.

The first is probably one of my favorite movies.

Neither 2 nor 3 live up to the first, but they're all good in my books.

I'd like to see a 4th carry on with the marauder theme, but I think they did a pretty good job of sealing things up with 3.

Starship Troopers is great.

I did not watch it for ages as all the critics said it sucked.

I remember them saying 'Lost Boys' sucked too, but I love that film as well.

Starship Troopers was not too bad. It had a cool feel to it. It had a bit of 'Pitch Black' feel. No way near as good as 'Pitch Black', but still watcherball.

Starship Troopers 3 was not bad. In fact still worth watching.

I think 2 and 3 were more influenced by 'Pitch Black'. As in on an Alien planet with the aliens out to get them.

Yes late 50's Heinlein novel, very pulp stuff for him considering his later novels like "Stranger In A Strange Land" etc.

In any case 1 is the best and 3 is pretty good as well. They really get into the hilarious "infomercials" and creepy totalitarian adverts in the 3rd one which i liked.

Want to know more?

heh...

Wow, I had no idea there were 3 of these movies, only saw the first one. I had heard they cut alot of shit out of the first one to get it past the censors. For you guys who are avid fans, is there like a directors cut or unrated version avail on DVD? If so, is it worth watching?

Someone brings this up every time we watch it. We had it on Sunday night when some friends were over and everyone got caught up in a, "So what? There are no nukes in the future?" discussion.

Lol. I wouldn't say I love it, but I don't mind it. I like the spirit it was made with. I wish more flicks in the sci-fi genre wouldn't take themselves so seriously.
