How do you keep your outsourced labor honest and productive?

I've had shitty luck with outsourced labor. If they aren't in my office, I seem to get crappy production.

I would love to hire a guy I just found, but he's not local and there's no way I can get him to move.

The majority of the work is research, with no real way to track how much work he is doing. One job might take 12 hours, and the next might take 2. Or maybe he'll say it took 12 when it took 2, because there's no way I would know any better!

Many times what I will do is set them up with a computer at the office and PC to GO and make them work on that machine no matter where they are located. It is a bit slower than if they worked on their own computer but at least you can see how productive they are, monitor them etc

Pay a flat-rate per week or month. Establish quotas and deadlines, with incentives for work completed quickly, or improved quality.

If you get more than your moneys worth what difference does it make how long it took them? You're paying them what, $300 a fucking month?

I will second this. I have only used outsoured work a few times, but everytime it has been paid upon completed job.

Has it always been the best work? No...
