An attacker broke into the network and was able to gain access to the servers, corrupting their OS and making them inoperable. Our only option at this point is to format the machines and attempt a restore from backup.

im guessing someone hacked one of the servers with ssh keys on it for all the servers and then used some script / bot to log in from there to all the servers and wreck havoc

they just ICQ'd me the same, but can you imagine how long it must take to restore from backups say a huge tube site client? some of those guys have dozens of drives over multiple servers. I assume since they are their money cow's they'd get the first restore, how long till the 100mbps clients get restored..

That said, if more hands on deck would be helpful I will put myself and a couple techs in a plane to come out and help in any way we can. Fuck. I'll bring redbull. Call me on my cell if we can do anything to help, seriously. Everyone that's a client- sit tight, pray, be patient - go drink heavily - RCN is surely working it systematically and phone/email/icq requests don't help them get this done any quicker.
