I don't read every thread. But it seems like there is less attacking going on lately.. So the negative rep points seem to be helping some in that regard.

As far as good rep points. People who cannot give rep points rarely have a high rep. I don't see where the good rep is doing much good.

I, for one, couldn't care less about the rep system here.

#1, with only people > 10K posts being able to rep, the majority of those able ti give out points are just post whores whose opinion shouldn't hold much weight.

#2, with all the threads of people wanting to circle-jerk rep points back and forth, they are meaningless and hold zero value.

On some forums, they work well, on this kind of forum, they are completely pointless.
