T1 charges
Anyone here on a FULL T1 for your office use? We are currently looking at getting our T1 line put in and it seems reasonable but I am unsure of the loop back charges. Anyone has any idea how much the loop back charges? We do a lot of emails and we need a good connection. Will a FULL T1 be helpful?

you know most cable is faster as far as download is concerned, only plus to a T1 is the upload speeds. But I'm pretty sure even if you get some kind of business class dsl, it would be far cheaper and faster.

i pay SBC a monthly circuit fee of $145 on a two year contract. additional monthly isp prices will vary of course. if you are unsure start off with a lighter speed of 256 instead of the full t-1. then later, once you are happy with the service/support and feel you need more speed you can upgrade your isp plan (a simple matter of your isp adjusting their meter). make sure you read any and all TOS.

Ooh, the wonderful "local loop" charge.. that cost will depend on the distance from you and your local pop. Also be aware that if you go outside your local baby bell for such service that local loop charge could be considerable. They use it as an anti-incentive if you will, a penalty for using somebody else's net services. The bells usually own the lines and are the ones that control when you get an install (Cause it's their lines). I think the local loop here was 378.00 a month, the 1st Isp we had drop a T1 in fucked me without lubrication, it was like 1500 a month plus local loop plus a bunch of other fees that nobody tells you about that make little sense like "1 time access to blah blah blah" charges.. it goes on and on. Then the Isp usually wants 2 months up front plus a setup at 500-1500 bucks, plus the router, another 1500 bucks for something decent.. all of a sudden you're looking at 5k just to get a stupid t1 installed. Anyway.. if you can't beat em join em .. Bellsouth offered t1 service at 900 bucks a month per month, no setup charge and Cisco router that'l accept 4 t1 cards free.. been with them ever since, saving a lot of money and getting great service with everything on 1 bill.. and no local loop charge. ;-)
Good luck, be sure to try to get a handle on *every* charge they'll hit you with.. cause nobody will tell you the whole truth until you've bought the thing and start getting funky billing. |

T1 = 1.5mbps
We're actually getting a 100mbps fiber hooked up in the next few month. Prices in Montreal for access are now VEEERY low. Install = 1000$CAN now for service: monthly price for 6mbps (they cap the 100mbps line) and 100gig of transfer: 1000$CAN/month now, if I can convince everyone here we need unlimited bandwith, ill be albe to abuse that line ;) p.s: our servers are not runned over that line. We have 100mbps colo in Austin the folks at Mach10hosting

Pricing as follows: 384K Fractional T1 - $389/month w/ $300 Rebate 768K Fractional T1 - $489/month w/ $500 Rebate 1.5M Full Data T1 - $579/month w/ $775 Rebate Installation - $599 Router - Purchase for $749 or lease with security package for $79.95/month. You may also provide your own CSU/DSU Compatible router. The service offered is a data T1 (DS1). All pricing includes the local loop charges. The bandwidth supplied is 1.5M/1.5M. We offer a full service level agreemenet (attached) that guarantees all aspects of the line. Installation can take between 30-45 days(Maximum) from the date of the initial order and you will not be billed until the completed installation. The $775 Rebate will essentially knock out the installation charge and give you some money toward the first month or the router. Let me know if you have any further questions or need anymore If I look at the 1.5 M both way upload and download speed, it only cost me 579 and there is NO local loop charges! Should I take it? -Nato

I was looking at a T3 also because our business at the rate we are growing will require it within 6-12 months and that is why I am also wondering if I should get a T3 later on. Anyone on T3 here like to help me out if it is useful???

T-1 prices depend a great deal on where you are located geographally and how far the local loop will be from the CLEC or RBOC POP. Shop around it is a very competitive market.
One caveat only buy from a tier one vendor or you will be so aggregated that even though you have a T1 to the POP you will be choked to the Net. |

We use a sprint T-1 including the router and local loop for about 900 a month. Not a single outage in over a year and a half. |

Good price for a good network. The only drawback is that you must be in a building that already has a fiber network, if you're in mid LA, this shouldn't be a problem. |

You'd be surprised how much faster your cable modem will be once you tweak it. DSLreporst.com can help.
