Bee Gee Maurice Gibb recovering after surgery
By Howard Cohen

Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees was recovering from emergency abdominal surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach on Friday after an operation a day earlier.

In a statement, Mount Sinai referred to his condition as critical but stable, saying Gibb was admitted Wednesday after complaining of stomach pains.

The hospital released a two-sentence statement, refusing to offer any details at the family's request, they said. Calls to Gibb's associates were referred to the hospital.

But the news of Gibb's illness still sparked a flurry of rumors Friday. The British press reported that the 53-year-old musician-songwriter had collapsed at home, suffering a heart attack. Overseas papers also erroneously reported that Michael Jackson, in Miami working with Barry Gibb on an unspecified project, had visited Maurice in the hospital.

All untrue, said Gibb's Los Angeles-based manager Carol Peters.

Peters wouldn't comment on Gibb's specific medical ailment or offer a prognosis.

''He had a congenital intestinal thing,'' she said. ``He's probably been walking around with it all of his life, but it got strangulated and they had to take it out. ..

''He had a stable night overnight and opened his eyes,'' Peters continued. ``Hopefully, he's on the mend. But he didn't have a stroke. He didn't have a heart attack. Michael Jackson did not come and visit but he did call. Right now it's just family and friends for the next 24 hours, as is the case with anyone who has had emergency surgery.''

An employee at North Miami Beach's Commander Mo's, a paintball shop owned by Maurice Gibb, who is a devotee of the sport, said he had seen Gibb over the weekend ``and he was fine.''

"tragedy"

When the feeling's gone and you can't go on
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one to love you you're
goin' nowhere
Tragedy
When you lose control and you got no soul
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one beside you you're
goin' nowhere
When the feeling's gone and you can't go on

The early Bee Gees songs are great...

"New York Mining Desaster 1941"

In the event of something happening to me,
there is something I would like you all to see.
It's just a photograph of someone that I knew.

Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

I keep straining my ears to hear a sound.
Maybe someone is digging underground,
or have they given up and all gone home to bed,
thinking those who once existed must be dead.

Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

ABBA and Bee Gees that is what makes boy bands over here...name a bee gees song and it has been covered atleast once in the past 10 years by a boy band. There was a group 'Steps' that for the first couple years did nothing but ABBA.

Between the two of them they ruined music.

Don't want them dead, just mute.
