Host Stealing My Traffic. Advice Please

I signed up with a hosting service the other day because they take paypal. They have been in business since 95' or 96 so I figured they were pretty cool.

However, when someone types the wrong url to my it pulls up a page from the host advertising fucking porn.

For example my site is www.realcamsex.com

If someone types www.realcamsex.com/yes.html and there is no yes.html page it pulls up the hosts ads.

Can I fix this? If not has anyone seen somebody do it before. Rather shitty if you ask me.

Thanks.

FTP to your account and see if you got a folder named error_docs, all your 404 and error pages are in there.

Most hosts set up default error pages, they are fairly easy to change.

Hit me up on icq 68784488 if you want me to run you through it.

Don't see htacces. I checked the hosts site and followed his instructions on how to see it because they are hidden but it didn't work. Is it possible to edit one outside and ftp it in? If so how. Thanks for the help.

There may not be .htacess docs in your directory. They may be redirecting all the 404's server wide through Apache.

I think these guys are saying to upload your own .htaccess file to your home directory to over-ride what your host is doing.

Also, make sure you can see hidden files with your FTP program. Some show them automatically, some you have to configure to show them, and some won't show them.

Good luck!

Actually its '.htaccess' and yes you can simply create the file in a text editor and upload it in your main directory. If your host does not have htaccess enabled in their Apache configuration it will not work, most likely they do though.

ErrorDocument 403
ErrorDocument 500

Why on earth we he need a new host because he hasn't put htaccess in? It'd be simple enough to do and resolve the problem. Much easier than changing hosts.
