    Xmarks is shutting down. Damn!

IMPORTANT: Xmarks Sync to be Discontinued

Sadly, Xmarks will be shutting down our free browser synchronization service on January 10, 2011. This page contains details on how to transition to recommended alternative services. For more detail on why we're closing our doors, please see our blog post.

    Best regards,
    -Team Xmarks

It's because Firefox now has their own sync, so not much use for xmarks.
Especially in the new Firefox, the sync is standard built in the browser.

I really like xmarks and its always the first thing I install on a new PC, after Firefox.

It's too bad they are going, unfortunately their service worked so well you rarely had to think about it at all.
            - As soon as I think up a good sig it's going here.

No, its because they couldn't monetize the service. And having a feature built-in as standard doesn't eliminate the possibility of using 3rd party software. IE is a perfect example.

Xmarks was also popular for telling related sites, in addition to syncing.

if you have the latest version of xmarks, you can set it so you can sync it to your own server.

Xmarks is better than built in syncing because it can sync across different browsers.
