I liked him over at ABC but like him more at Fox.
Not a fan of FOX news but I really like this John Stossel guy

Me too. Read one of his books as well. Really enjoy his message although it mostly gets me enraged over what happens in real life versus what should be happening.

im really surprised hes on fox. he always seemed like a libertarian and the opposite of what fox news typically represents.you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

I used to watch Red Eye, which struck me as having a strong conservative slant. Of course there was only one reason I watched it... for one of their correspondents.

Dont think he said that at all, he was talking about Fox having contributors with *multiple* points of view. And as an example, he pointed out that they had liberal contributors as well, then assumed that people who didnt watch Fox news would assume that they probably blacked out all points of view from the liberal side.

I cant disagree that there are a lot of shows on Fox that are blatantly biased, and I dont watch those either. It's even more annoying when I see a bunch of people on Fox hopping on the "Libertarian" band wagon one week, and railing against things like gay marraige the next.

I'm going on a hunch here, but I'm pretty sure what he meant wasnt as ridiculous as he articulated.
He structured that statement completely wrong. He was trying to point out that Fox has both conservative and liberal contributers, and thats why he likes to watch it. Because of the multiple viewpoints. Not solely because of the liberal contributers.
Edit: Or I could be misunderstanding him completely too, you could describe Libertarians loosely as "fiscally conservative, socially liberal".
They are pro-choice, pro-gay marraige. Conservatives usually cringe at the thought of those two.
But they are also fiscally conservative, they wont spend taxpayer money on welfare or entitlement programs. Something liberals think is a cold and inhumane policy.
But for that, I wouldnt call a Libertarian liberal.Last edited by Napolean; 09-26-2010, 11:47 AM.Need a programmer? (Desktop/Web Applications) --- Skype: napoleandeComment

Thats a strong statement, and the same thing could be said about MSNBC.
But the fact is, neither is 100 percent [left/right] propaganda. There are multiple viewpoints and good arguments made for both sides on both news channels.
Where your getting bent out of shape is that they do primarily swing to the right. I havent watched a lot of MSNBC, but I have peeked in at 5:00 PM to see the difference, and what I saw was the equivilant to a democratic Hannity.
The only people I like on Fox are Beck and Stossel. I have a few issues with Beck but I agree with everything Ive heard from Stossel.
Have you watched these two? Or have you only seen the other guys?
And while were at it, who should I look for on MSNBC if I want to get multiple and fair viewpoints for both conservative and liberals?
Edit: One more thing, no news station can damage the country. Its up to the people themselves to decide for themselves what is right and wrong.Last edited by Napolean; 09-26-2010, 11:56 AM.Need a programmer? (Desktop/Web Applications) --- Skype: napoleandeComment

I tried to watch Chris Mathews show this morning. I could only get through 15 mins of it. He confessed he was swept away by Obama. Then he had a panel discussing what was wrong with people and why people do not like Obama. Not once did the mention that people dont like him because of his completely failed policies but rather the people are to stupid and Obama just needs to sell his agenda better. The same things could be said about MSNBC, and even Comedy Central. When I was a kid I enjoyed watching him because of his devil's advocate style.
But he has since become a total fraud and it has nothing to do with being on Fox or any political slant. Do a search for John Stossel and you'll find he made several reports in which he claimed to have performed polls or tests and he never really did. He just made up the numbers. He also claimed to have sent certain materials to a lab for testing, which he never did. He didn't just fudge the numbers, or use questionable sources, he flat out made stuff up.
He publicly admitted that all the allegations were true and apologized.
To me, if you do that even once as a journalist, you have lost all credibility. The guy is a fraud.jim (at) amateursconvert . com Amateurs ConvertComment

I have a confession to make: I do not watch Fox News.... there I said it. I have watched Fox news in the past, I was a regular viewer as a matter of fact until the invasion of Iraq. It was at that point that I began changing the way I viewed the world and politics. I still watched Fox News after that of course, but much less
then came the Patriot Act and within a few months I had gone from what I labeled myself a 'Moderate Republican' to what I now consider myself to me a 'Moderate Democrat'. Although I think I may have slipped into the realm of full on socialist nut job by anyone who considers themselves a 'conservative', 'fiscal conservative' and most definitely by anyone who considers themselves a member of or sympathetic to the Tea Party...
I HAVE watched Fox News in bits and pieces, as much as I can stomach in recent months, but only for a few laughs. Unfortunately the laughs turn sour quicker and quicker.
My son recently told me a saying one of his teachers told him when he was in grade school (he is now in college) it was this: If you are a republican you can't have a heart, if your a democrat you can't have a brain.
I will add to that: if you're style of debate is name calling and hurling insults, then you can't have an intellect.
Of course that will only bother the democrats amongst us since having an intellect has been widely held by the right as being Elitist and bad mmmmmmmkay

One of the most important things to me is individual sovereignty, the things you talked about that swayed you from the republican side are also things that bothered me and actually pushed me further to the right. (Absolute right would be anarchy, absolute left would be totalitarianism)
I beleive the government should enforce individual rights, and as far as law enforcement goes, anything that someone else does that violates anothers rights is what should be considered illegal and enforced. Fox is such a lightning rod, that those who hate it will tune in just to see what they're going to say or air next.

I think that the government is of, by and for the people. It should be a cowardly slave to the will of the people. It should protect and help them. It should do everything in it's power, the power granted to them by the people, to make sure they are safe and secure in good times and in bad. What should the role of government be in your opinion?
One of the most important things to me is individual sovereignty, the things you talked about that swayed you from the republican side are also things that bothered me and actually pushed me further to the right. (Absolute right would be anarchy, absolute left would be totalitarianism)
I beleive the government should enforce individual rights, and as far as law enforcement goes, anything that someone else does that violates anothers rights is what should be considered illegal and enforced. (What you do in the privacy of your own home does not concern me, get high if you want, just dont go out for a joyride after)
I also think that most things people consider the governments job could be run better by private individuals and business.
Some of the things that I think the government should be doing but are not due to special interests are;
Protect the individual liberties and freedoms of American citizens without intentionally and for no good reason inducing paralyzing fear in the masses to make money
They should regulate those business sectors that have a real impact on the economy, the environment or the well being and health of the population.
They should protect American jobs and help to raise the standard of living in the US while avoiding isolationism.
They should make a good education a right of it's citizens if they meet certain minimum criteria
The should make health care available for all citizens
(a healthy, financially secure, well educated individual of voting age scares the fuck out of career politicians).
They should make a Constitutional Amendment that overturns the view that a corporation has the same rights when it comes to campaign financing as an individual has
They should respect an individuals privacy.
But above all else, the one thing that I can write that trumps anything else I could possibly say: The government needs to work together in a respectful way to come to compromises that will work for the benefit of the American people both rich and poor alike.
The American people by and large of all classes have become some of the most ignorant humans on the face of the planet. We pick sides and fight like hell and most times it is actually against our own best interest just so we can have had the fight and hopefully been on the winning side.
The ONLY side any of us should be on is the side of 98% of the people who live here. That is not going to happen; people pick things that are important to them, identify the party that 'feels their pain' and roots for them in all things that they do.
Blind
Stupid
Uninformed Loyalty that will cost them dearly in the long run. But the great thing about us Americans is we won't be able to see it. Nope, we WON...and that's all that mattersComment
