This "certification" requirement is stupid and impossible.

1. Who exactly is going to certify that a bill is Constitutional?

2. Only the Supreme Court has the power to decide which laws are Constitutional or not...and in these instances the Supreme Court only hears *actual* cases where somebody is *actually* injured because of a Unconstitutional law.

They will get in, do nothing and blame obama. If the bush tax cuts were so good for the country they controlled it all. Why didnt they make them permanent ?
Also Bush gave all those tax breaks to the rich and wages were flat and jobs were being sent off shore as fast as possible. If it wasnt for the housing balloon this all would of been felt alot sooner.
Also I find it so amusing when people say government is awful creates nothing and they made their money online. If it wasnt for government funding there would be no internet.

"Marc Andreessen: Mosaic was built at the University of Illinois. I was an undergrad student, but I was also a staff member at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, which is basically a federally funded research institute. When Al Gore says that he created the Internet, he means that he funded these four national supercomputing centers. Federal funding was critical. I tease my libertarian friends—they all think the Internet is the greatest thing. And I’m like, Yeah, thanks to government funding."

Tax cuts for the wealthy.. get rid of health care for the poor... spend more on defense.

Sounds like a plan..

Bill8 09-23-2010 02:45 AM

if anyone sees anything in it that seems new, something bold that hasn't been tried before, please point it out. maybe I have policy blindness, don't see much yet.

the dems havn't done anything new - well, the credit card reform thing, and we simply have no idea what the health insurance bill will accomplish, so maybe there is something new in it.

i'm curious what republicans think is new and bold.

oh right, the constitutional certification, maybe thats new.

cutting congresses internal budget - sounds good. is it new? it's a meaninglessly small amount, but sure why not. why haven't the republicans done it unilaterally?

Everyone that pays taxes skirts some of it due to loopholes. There is a huge underground economy where no one pays anything. The jobs to China issue started long ago. We started losing work in the 1980's to Taiwan. Then in the mid 90's to China. I agree 100% that some type of legislation should be passed to force China to play on an even field.

Even today, my mainstream business purchases products including shipping from China for less than the cost of the raw materiels in America.

The Chinese government still has a 9% VAT for their manufacturing industry for every dollar of product they export. If you own stock in American manufacturing you are part of the problem. You invested in those US companies and expect a return. US corporations clearly satisfied their investors by going offshore and cutting costs.

The good news I see now is that China is getting more expensive every month we order. It gets to a point with having to wait for 8weeks for products and having to pay for those products prior to shipping makes bring things back to the US a lot easier.

We are seeing a lot of that with our customers now. China was palitable when they were dirt cheap. Their quality is still bad, there still is a 12 hour time difference and it still takes to long. US manufacturing is coming back. We added 28 new jobs this year and when our new building is completed will add at least that many more.

They talk about tax cuts for small business but they vote one down last week.they are so full of shit lol

The Demon 09-23-2010 09:16 AM

The question is, which party is going to screw up our economy less. At this point, it seems like the Republicans.

Babaganoosh 09-23-2010 09:22 AM

"We pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values."

didnt gingrich do this one back during clinton admin?

damn....Déjà vu

Tom_PM 09-23-2010 10:22 AM

The plan is tax cuts for the rich and nothing else. It's not even a plan, it's a pretend thingy. A 'pledge' to remain the party of no for for as long as they can get away with it.

They're snatching defeat from the arms of victory with this shit.

_Richard_ 09-23-2010 10:22 AM

"We will fight efforts to use a national crisis for political gain."

and i want a copy of that image for their version of 'health care'

this is the biggest joke in the world

Barefootsies 09-23-2010 10:25 AM

Sounds like a return to the status quo, and shooting down any and all progressive policies to keep the rich laughing all the way to the bank as usual. We do not need missile defense, nor to deal with Iran. That is nothing more than throwing more money at the military industrial complex. Leave Iran to the Israeli's.

As for those cap and spend policies. Comical considering the 8 years of Bush and Republican's controlling both houses lead to some of the highest debt ever for this country.

:2 cents:

You have no faith that the GOP will work
Most people in this country have no faith in the current administration

Comical, considering the Republicans didn't control both houses for 8 years.

Remember the last "Contract with America" by the minority GOP Congress in 1994. How many of those EIGHT items did they follow through and deliver?

Just ONE!

Barefootsies 09-23-2010 10:45 AM

Quote:

The agenda Republicans announced today contains the exact same Bush policies that led to the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, left the middle class behind while the wealthy accumulated more and more, and exploded our national debt. Across the spectrum, these policies are proven failures for the middle class and for America's security -- and there's no reason to think that this time will be any different.
Quote:

Jobs: Actions speak louder than words. Democrats are working to rebuild American manufacturing with the Make It in America agenda, a plan to invest in manufacturing innovation, strengthen the American workforce and fight for a fair playing field for American companies that compete overseas. Democrats also support helping small businesses access the loans they need to grow and hire new workers, and making it harder for companies to outsource American jobs.

Republicans have voted against bills that would provide loans and tax cuts for small businesses. And as for outsourcing, Republicans are proving again that they're much more interested in listening to corporations than to middle-class Americans. On their "America Speaking Out" website, preventing the outsourcing of American jobs was the single most popular policy. But House Republicans voted against legislation to make it more difficult to outsource American jobs -- five times.
Quote:

The Budget: Republicans claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility -- ignoring their own borrowing spree to pay for two wars and tax cuts for the wealthy. And their policy agenda again shows that they place tax cuts for the wealthy above getting America out of debt: Its giveaways to the richest Americans would add $700 billion to the deficit. Many Republicans continue to call for the privatization of Social Security, which would put the retirement security of millions of seniors at the whims of the stock market.
Quote:

National Security: Republicans ignore the fact that the United States has, under President Barack Obama, killed or captured hundreds of terrorist leaders, including much of the top leadership of al-Qaida and the Taliban. What is the Republican record on security? Putting our children in debt to pay for the war in Iraq. Ignoring Afghanistan and helping the Taliban and al-Qaida maintain a crucial foothold. Depriving our troops of the body armor and mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles they need to stay safe in the line of duty. And failing to enforce tough sanctions to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Under Democratic leadership, we passed the strongest sanctions on Iran in history, and we were able to convince the international community to cooperate with them, making them stronger. Democrats also believe in strong security for our borders: Last month we came into a special session to send more resources to our Southwest border, including more than 1,000 new Border Patrol agents.
Quote:

Health Care: In their push against health reform, Republicans stand with insurance companies. After presiding over a period during which premiums doubled and the number of uninsured topped 40 million, Republicans still don't have a real health care plan. They don't have a real plan to prevent insurance companies from dropping Americans' coverage when they become sick, putting arbitrary lifetime and annual limits on the coverage Americans are entitled to, or denying coverage to children with pre-existing conditions. Health reform gave middle-class Americans control over their own health care decisions; the Republican plan would put control back in the hands of insurance companies.
Quote:

Wall Street Reform: Already, the top Republican on the Senate Banking Committee, Sen. Richard Shelby, is promising to "revisit" Wall Street reform if Republicans gain power. Weakening Wall Street reform would mean a return to the casino-style gambling that helped crash our entire economy in 2008, resulting in the loss of millions of jobs and undermining the security of millions of families. It would mean less protection for consumers taking out a mortgage, applying for a loan or opening a new account.
'Nuff said.
:pimp
