Why Do Voters Believe Obvious Lies?

We humans are a strange sort. We picture ourselves as the smartest animals on the planet, guided more by reason and critical thinking than impulse. But then why, many scientists continue to ask, do we so often believe in nonsense?

I contend that deep down they WANT to believe the lies. They love getting angry and complaining to their friends and family. The want to feel that they are the victim and vast winger conspiracies are fun and exciting

a lot more fun and interesting then going to their day to day jobs and having their normal boring conversations

I think that the muslim thing was brought up to mask the bad economy and over priced healthcare law, or the fact that we aren't better off after 4 years of democrats being in charge of the house and senate.

      Simple diversionary tactic
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
      think about that

Same as a woman staying with a guy she hates and complaining about him to all her friends. There's no logic in it at all.

Politicians are assholes...there's only a few honest ones in the bunch, and a few more that BELIEVE they're honest and helping all people but are only hurting. The rest are so rich from the process that besides of course supporting anything that would help themselves, they just go through the motions of being a politician.

People like to believe they're part of something important, no matter how insignificant their role may be.

Also the classic choosing of sides... How many people go to church not because of God, but to be part of a group? Or choose a group of friends in high school, not because of any reason really other than they're welcomed onto the team?

Think, the last guy picked in gym class is still probably happier to be on one of the two sides rather than sitting alone not part of anything.

For the most part people are guided by emotion, fear and superstition in the form of religion.

I think a lot of people on the left don't identify themselves to/with the left at all.. They just know that a lot of people on the right are crazy/greedy/selfish. Similarly a lot of people don't identify with the right, but vote right because they think it's better financially, have family in the military, or they dislike immigration/taxes/welfare etc.

I wonder how many people just vote with whatever their whole family traditionally has voted in the US, I bet lots.

                              Interesting results...

                              Here are the findings:
                              • Participants who said they supported McCain were 56 percent more likely to believe Obama is a Muslim. But when they were asked to fill out a demographic card asking for their own race, the likelihood jumped to 77 percent. Kosloff said that showed that merely thinking about race put Obama in a different category than the participants, none of whom were black.
                              • Participants who were undecided about the candidates said there was a 43 percent chance McCain was senile. But that number jumped to 73 percent when they simply listed their own age on a card.
                              • Undecided participants said there was a 25 percent chance Obama is a socialist, but that number jumped to 62 percent when they considered race, "even though being a socialist has nothing to do with race," Kosloff said.
                              • The results show that the participants recognized they belonged in a different group than both candidates. One is black, the other is old.

Which is why negative campaigning has been going on for a loooong time...especially when it's just 2 strong candidates. "Make sure to vote for anyone but that guy because he fucked your mother last night...oh right, that leaves just me to vote for to realistically have your vote count, what a coincidence!!!1"

BTW I thought McCain was senile for sure when he called Obama "that one"...that reeked of pissed off old grandpa, lol.
