<sarcasm>I'm sure its mostly from the link that says "free full Jordan Capri site rip here".</sarcasm>

We are going after sites that are posting our members-only content. File hosts and message boards where thieves post full sets, full videos, and site rips. I'm not looking to bother anyone following our TOS and linking back to our sites.

I expect we might lose some typein traffic, but I also expect our ratios to improve overall. I'd rather have the joins than the useless traffic.

Do you have a better idea to combat blatant piracy?

We have gone the Robbie route and have taken down all of the large high quality downloadable video options. We have streaming and small file downloads.

This is about business and making money now and I am sick of providing superb free quality free content for pirates and forums.

those guys have nothing to lose. It's a lost battle long ago.

The trouble with epass has hopefully slowed that down.

when done with that update your sites from 1999.

I support all around what you're doing... It's your property, so protect it.

I'm not saying ignore piracy here because controlling it on the major sources is a must. But don't expect anything to change on your side sales wise, I've seen it first hand several times now and sales never improve. It feels good to protect yourself, but it doesn't add to the sales - but it can provide a paycheck.

Honestly, if you put that money/attention into marketing/sales - you would make 100x more money.

TisMe 09-14-2010 04:51 AM

Steve, if you're sending to hosts make sure that you go upstream. Hosts' Host and so on. The larger companies tend to be have much more responsive legal departments.

A host will often react very differently when their provider calls them about a DMCA notice that they got.

Calling every other country in the world a 'shithole'? Typical American 'tough guy' routine, even though your average foreigner would wipe the ground with your average American (easily). Sooooo professional no wonder these pirates take you so seriously.

It did make me feel there was a sudden burst of being childish coming through rather than a sensible adult. Hard to take anyone serious that threatens to fly around the world hurting people.

NoWhErE 09-14-2010 06:34 AM

Jay and Silent Bob did it, why couldn't Steve do it?

On a serious note, this guy is fighting for his business and you are all nit-picking a quirky comeback? I think any real webmaster should look beyond the pettiness and take pride in the fact that at least one of us is doing something. It may not lead to much, but its a start.

Klen 09-14-2010 07:28 AM

Also,it would be good to open mail like [email protected] where affiliates would be able to report piracy links when founded.

I didn't approve of your step 1, but this step I'm 2000% behind and I think this actually helps to fight piracy and improves conversions for you and your affiliates, speaking of hope in the future LSC will become more active again

Bad shit happens pricks in foreign countries who cross the wrong people. :2 cents:

A human life is not worth $20 in some areas of the world, and while no one is going to break your nose at a show or even say a word to you, paying someone a few bucks in some shit hole country to make you drink through a tube for the rest of your life, is an option.

Of course, that is only if one were so inclined to take such drastic and extreme measures.

Rock on Steve! May you send 1000s more and hand each and every one of these pricks their ass. :thumbsup

Homegrown Video supports Lightspeed's efforts against piracy

We have had great success tagging euro and other offshore pirates and banging cash out of them. I don't know why those guys always think they are somehow untouchable. Show me a country that has no attorneys and I will start to believe it.:2 cents::winkwink:

Good luck Steve. As a fellow freedom fighter in our Acacia war, I know you have the mettle to go the distance - settle only for cash from the pirates that have pillaged far too long.

NetHorse 09-14-2010 11:02 AM

Good luck. :thumbsup

However, I'm just going to throw this out there. In the grand scheme of things, even if 75% comply with your DMCA notices your bottom-end won't go up much.

The sad reality is free porn is free porn, whether they're watching yours or another copyright holders. This won't change anything to better your situation. Once you DMCA them, yes, they won't be infringing on your copyrighted works. However, it's not like after removing your content a banner or even a sponsored video remains on their site to reference your site, you've just lost all the exposure, (even if less than 10% of it was productive) that was coming from those sites.

Instead of DMCA notices maybe you should first propose an opportunity to monetize their users that can benefit both of you.

For example, offer a major tube site a sub domain name with their branding and some sponsored clips. I know, I know 'supporting tubes' I'm evil, but do what you need to do to 'adapt'.

Unfortunately for us, those tube sites hold A LOT of potential exposure in their hands. :helpme Until we have effective laws that can shut them down completely, working with them instead of against them might end up being the most productive solution, (yes it hurts to come to that realization).

That would depend largely on whether or not he takes the opportunity to fill that void by seeding everywhere with his own branded marketing clips... :winkwink:

Steve Lightspeed

where exactly in the dmca does it say that it has to be remove in 24 hours.

without a timelimit how exactly do you know the difference between missed and just gotten to yet.

Steve didn't say anything about them removing content in 24 hours. You may want to read what he wrote again. This isn't really a confusing processes to understand.

I printed them out, took a dump on them and mailed it to your business address.
