you sure you want to do that?
i upgrade to 4.0 on my 3g and 3gS and it made the phone lag soooo bad

i thought it was just me but googling i found out it is pretty much common if you upgrade to 4.0+ on a 3g or 3gs your phone will lag like crazy

If its a 3G & not a 3Gs don't do it. Phone will crawl trying to run IOS 4.

It's a VERY known issue. Google it.

However, you could just jailbreak your 3.x software?

jailbreak will not make your phone automatically unlocked for other carriers. For such you need unlock as well.
So far, unlock for 4.1 doesn't exist, and jailbreak is not officially released.

OK, then Ill just toss the iPhone and unlock my Blackberry instead. I see there are numerous sites offering unlock codes - which ones to trust?
