    "My Trip to Al-Qaeda"

Very interesting film detailing Pulitzer Prize winner Lawrence Wright's experiences with extremist Islamic culture. The man has an interesting perspective, having been a reporter in the Arabic world for many years.

One of the more memorable lines I thought is when he is talking about the enviroment that produces extremists, specicially Saudi Arabia, and how it always involves repressing Women. Young men grow up without any real social interaction with non family members of the opposite sex. Anyways he goes on to say how this enviroment is required because "Afterall, it's hard to be a terrorist if your girlfriend won't let you.".

    Worth the watch.

its funny how saudi is actually the spawning ground for the most extreme organizations yet the US never talks about this...

saudi is the child molesting uncle that people think if they ignore his existence, all the evil will just go away on its own..

when the oil finally runs out and saudi goes back to the greasy shithole it is, the world will be a better place..

too bad i wont live to see that day....

That's because American big business and the House of Saud are bestest butt buddies for evers now. They made billions of the contracts awarded by the House of Saud to American contractors in order to rebuild Saudi Arabia's infrastructure. You don't fight with your bestest butt buddy ever now do you...

If Saddam would have bent over and let the big contractors move in Iraq when Bush Senior wanted to ages ago, he'd still be in power now living a carefree high-life funded by US big biz, and Iraq would have no worries as to dealing with any repercussions at the hands of American military might for whatever may be going down. As long as you let them move in and make a few bills off the country, just like the Saudi's did...

The US doesn;t give a fuck about freedom, liberty, it's people, or the people of any other country. Just money...

There is a great HBO mini series called Generation Kill that is a true story about the recon Marines that led the charge into Iraq during the first gulf war.

One of the marines goes off on a tangent to the reporter that is embedded with them and tells him that the middle east doesn't have a religion or terrorism problem, it has a pussy problem. He says if they just had some strip clubs and hooters that the guys would all chill out and everything would be fine. . . he might not be too far off.

There is another writer (I think it is John Darnton, but I'm not sure) who said that the main problem with the middle east is that they underestimate the power of the beauty of the female face. Just walking down the street and seeing a pretty girl smiling makes people feel good and the middle east is lacking that. Most of those countries treat their women as if they are animals to be kept for trade or service.

So the problem with the Middle East is that the women don't go to places and take off their clothes and show their pussies for money, and when they aren't doing that they should be strutting around in the street looking good to make men smile and give them something to look at.

THAT is treating women like animals. Don't be so shallow, there's a lot more to a woman than her ability to make your dick hard.

Also during Saddam's time the women were allowed to go uncovered what changed that was the American invasion that gave power to a bunch of religious nuts. Don't pretend like Iraq had any problem - they were doing just fine. The problem was with the US the whole time, and still is.

Ok, for starters I never said anything about any particular country, I basically mentioned the middle east as a whole. Yes, under Saddam there were parts of the country where women could go around without their faces covered. there are parts of Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia and so on where the same is true. There were also parts of the country where women were killed because they showed their face or the dared to not want to be married to the person their father chose. There were parts of Iraq where women were whipped because they didn't run fast enough to carry out their husbands orders. Don't for a second think that all was good under Saddam. If you were a Bathist, life was pretty good for you. If you weren't life could be very bad. There is a reason that Saddam was known as the Butcher of Baghdad and it wasn't because he knew how a cut a good steak.

Now, that said, it doesn't give us the right to just storm across their borders and invade them as Bush did.

Secondly, I never said the two things I posted. I was quoting other people and the point was that it was a general broad statement that women being a big part of a society and men being able to express their interest in them without shame is a good thing. It helps make the society better for both sexes. I'm not an idiot that thinks throwing up a few strip clubs would solve all of their problems, but I do think that one of the major problems with that part of the world is the rampant sexual repression. If both men and women were more liberated to live life as they chose and express their sexuality as they saw fit that part of the world would be a much better place. Sex isn't the only problem that part of the world has. Just as bad is the lack of education and the reality that many of these people are not people who live their lives and have religion in it, but they are people who's lives are controlled by religion.

Trust me when I say that I fully understand the huge role women play in our society. That they are free to play that role in any manner they see fit is one of the things that makes the USA great. That they are not free to play that role as they see fit is one of the problems with the middle east.

And yes, I do think that seeing a pretty woman's face can have a calming effect on men in general. There was actually a study done where they put men into an MRI chamber then showed them various images. Men's brains responded the same when they saw a pretty woman's face as they did when they were also shown pictures of things that made them happy or that they enjoyed. The exact same was true for women when they were shown pictures of good looking guys. The difference is that men are the ones that start the wars and for the most part they are the ones who control the government so when they get angry, they start shooting shit. This doesn't mean that I think if guys can walk around and look at women they find pretty's faces all day the world would be a better place, I'm simply saying that seeing a smiling female face is one of the benefits of living in a free and open society. It is just another small piece in the big puzzle.

As for the theory about terrorism and the visibility women. Well that's crazy. Be the terrorism in the West, East or Middle East. Terrorism has it's roots in Frustration with the system, People with nothing to lose and with People wanting to change the Status Quo.

Terrorism in the Middle East includes Jews from Europe wanting a land of their own. Palestinians wanting their land back. And a lot of people not having anything to lose they tried or are trying to over throw the regime in power.

It's got little to do with women and their role in society.

There is not ONE SOLE cause for terrorism. He talks about it being a contributing factor in their society. Other people and societies have other reasons. Try and wrap your head around that you simple minded ignorant idiot.

HAS IT"S ROOTS. Not the only thing. Trying to blame it even partly on the role of women in their society is avoiding the other factors. Which are far more important.

Terrorism in the Middle East includes Jews from Europe wanting a land of their own. Palestinians wanting their land back. And a lot of people not having anything to lose they tried or are trying to over throw the regime in power.

It's got little to do with women and their role in society.
You said it yourself. The root of terrorism comes in frustration with the system. There are many reasons people become frustrated with the system. Many terrorists are simply undereducated very poor people who are frustrated with the system, are poverty stricken and then one day are taken in by a group that helps them. They give them money and a help them find a purpose. They also teach them a hatred for the US (or whoever they are going to strike out against). They teach them that this enemy is the cause of their poverty and frustration with the system and these people, living in a society with a controlled media, have no way of knowing anything else.

I'm not saying the sole reason for terrorism is the role of women in the middle eastern society, I'm simply saying it is one of many the contributing factors. Imagine when you were a young man starting to date. What if you were not allowed to even speak to a woman and you never saw any woman's face other than those you were related to? Would that not frustrate you? Could that not become a contributing factor in your frustration for society?

GW Bush' famously documented connection to the House of Saud, especially the Bin Ladin family, is the reason its been hands off Saudi Arabia..400 million per year plus into the coffers of the Cheney/Bush Crime Family buys a lot of influence.

Why do you think he was so vocal in support of Islam the wake of 911?

One of the marines goes off on a tangent to the reporter that is embedded with them and tells him that the middle east doesn't have a religion or terrorism problem, it has a pussy problem. He says if they just had some strip clubs and hooters that the guys would all chill out and everything would be fine. . . he might not be too far off.

There is another writer (I think it is John Darnton, but I'm not sure) who said that the main problem with the middle east is that they underestimate the power of the beauty of the female face. Just walking down the street and seeing a pretty girl smiling makes people feel good and the middle east is lacking that. Most of those countries treat their women as if they are animals to be kept for trade or service.
women might be a pain in the ass sometimes yet every country without fail that treats women like shit is completely fucked up

Exactly. Every country that treats women like shit, without fail, is an all fucked up cesspool of a country.
