COGENT -> AOL/TW rerouted.

Looks like Cogent took care of their AOL problems by rerouting through MFN.net

I'm betting that the $$$ in transit that AOL will have to pay MFN for the increased load will get them to flip some direct cogent peering back on

Who knows though.. I read an article on wired or washingtonpost (or someplace) that made it seem like there was some bad blood between them.

AOL doesn't pay $$ to MFN for transit. that ended a while back.

i'd say it's a very temporary thing.

AOL will see the increased traffic on their abovenet peering and will probalby demand renegotiation with abovenet. abovenet will likely be forced to stop the cogent deal. heh.

If it's temporary, it will happen within 24 hours. It's not like AOL's peering guys aren't keeping tabs on the Cogent routes.

They knew whats was up within 60 seconds of them flipping on the MFN route

Theres like this big game of peering chess going on right now. In the end I'm betting AOL will wind up flipping on the the old Cogent OC12's again.

Thats probably the cheapest way for everyone to push the packets.

Yes, lets remember that the COGENT - AOL/TW peering resolution isn't a problem with Cogent. Everyone in the peering games KNOWS that Cogent doesnt & wont pay for transit. AOL knew this too.. they just feel that their eyeballs are worth more than cogents content.

It's silly though.. I think Cogent & AOL are fighting over $75,000/month here (To turn the the dual OC48 connection back on) - to be paid to AOL in addition to however they were splitting the line costs.
