    Prosecutor calls for legalizing marijuana

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...st05mckay.html

Interesting read and quickly becoming the norm among law enforcement.

all it will take is one state to legalize and when the feds and other states see the revenue generated, it will be legal in all states...

the biggest obstacle is going to be the fed and other states complaining that illegal dope will be coming from the legal state...

Initiative 1100 is hopefully going to do away with state run liquor stores in WA.

It's an idea whose time has come. Prohibition is a LOSE LOSE LOSE situation

Government loses due to lost taxes, potential for institutional corruption, money wasted on prohibition enforcement could go to other services or back to the people through tax cuts

People lose due to dangerous product for those addicted/those who choose to use, prison time, crime that prohibition generates

Producing countries lose because the high price creates drug lords with private armies and extensive corruption of local government institutions

          Alcohol was prohibited, didn't work.

WF Buckley, Ron Paul, etc etc are right. Time to rethink this policy. It has a DEVASTATING effect on the global economy, has racist aftereffects, and is a HEALTH HAZARD.

Too bad he didn't change his attitude about MJ before he sent Marc Emery to jail for 5 years for selling seeds.

Medicinal marijuana can have use as a painkiller. Also, some people say "I don't do drugs - just weed. Weed is not drugs." Weed is not hard drugs. Weed can cause short term memory loss. I see helix has an avatar of Barack Obama. You can find a video on youtube about how Barack Obama talks about how he has tried smoking weed in his life. Bill Clinton also has said that he has tried smoking weed. Find videos of different politicians on many different topics at http://www.youtube.com.

Gee Mr. McKay, you sure have a way with words. I am a 60 year old idiotic, Vietnam Vet who started an affair with mj while serving almost 2 years in that lovely country. While I appreciate your conversion to sanity I find it somewhat similar to the crook in jail that finds God. You made your living off the backs of the millions of our sons and daughters who were arrested, jailed, fined and forced into drug rehab and now you say you see the light? You almost sound disappointed that busting down our doors using military style tactics just wasn't effective enough to slow our use! Listen to me Mr. McKay, what I, a responsible adult, chooses to do in my home, while harming no one else, should NEVER be the concern of my government nor you. You just don't get to choose what I do or not do, as long as I harm no one else, it is as simple as that. Over two hundred years ago a gentleman name Thomas Jefferson had a few words to address people like you; ; ?If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.? Can this be the reason your marijuana prohibition and your jackbooted mentality failed also? You simply failed to gauge the depth and breathe of our obligation Mr. McKay? You will not govern our behavior and you certainly will not tell us what we can or cannot grow in our gardens. Until your kind realizes this, we will keep up our obligations.

Alcohol prohibition was a terrible idea because it meant that organized crime could make a killing selling booze. It also led to untold numbers of deaths. Drug prohibition is a terrible idea because it means that organized crime can make a killing selling drugs. It has lead to massive amount of deaths.

Alcohol prohibition ended, and organized crime moved on to something else. When drug prohibition ends, organized crime will move on to something else, hopefull something less destructive.

                    The sky is blue.

Hurry up and get it fucking done, the only reason it hasn't been completely legalized in Canada yet is American influence. So get your fucking shit together already...
