Money improves general sense of well being?

I've noticed that the more money i make the happier i am. For instance, i've been smiling more lately, sleeping better & longer...and its easier to get an erection.

Hell even being nicer to people on the boards....

Something strange is going on indeed...but i think it might be related to having more money?

Someone should do a research study on the direct link between money & mental health.....

I disagree with the money = happiness theory. I USED to agree with it, but no longer. From first hand experience, you can have all the money in the world, but if you have a serious illness (not necessarily a life threatening one, but one that simply affects your quality of life), then the money does NOT contribute much to your happiness. Believe me, a well-off person dying of cancer would much rather be as poor as a church mouse but healthy. Plain and simple. Sure money can help to pay medical bills, but that's about it as far as happiness is concerned.

To enjoy money you have to have been in a position where you didn't have so much, otherwise you just take it for granted and don't really appriciate all the new opportunities you have.

In my experience, increases in money stop correlating directly with increases in happiness when you reach the point where you have a roof over your head, decent wheels, no 9-5 grind job working for an asshole boss, and a nice nest egg. It helped mostly by removing the stress I used to feel over where the rent money or food money was coming from etc.

Past that point tho.. does having a $80k car to get from A to B really make you happier than a $15k car? Maybe for a moment or two, but it never lasts, and there is always something better that you don't have. Same thing with houses & portfolio's and shit. It can start to become an obstacle to happiness then.

So if you have wheels, a roof, no job, and some security, and your still not happy, its probably time to realize the problem is with you, not your bank account.

Keeping things in perspective is the most important thing.

There are many things to be concerned about in life. Money only relieves one concern and that is financial concern. I personally would give up all that I have, to have a normal back again, not to have to live with daily pain and be concerned about the day that I will become paralyzed.

Here is a simple explaination that explains why money will make you feel more secure (which may or may not be equated to or confused with happiness. but certainly is related to an increased sense of security). money creates security in many ways... it gives you the security of knowing you will have clothes, food, water, shelter and an acceptable quality of life.

money/ability to provide, is also related related to fulfilling to the most basic human needs for sex, love and companionship.
