“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
Nah, I'm not kidding. 80 miles south of Vermillion bay, all 13 people reported ok now. I saw it on MSNBC as breaking news, so I havent looked for links. No doubt more will come out, but there was no word of oil in the water that I heard.

According to that CNN-link:
Rescue attempts are underway for at least 12 people, Coast Guard spokesman John Edwards told CNN. 13 people were on board the rig total, Edwards said, noting 12 have been accounted for, but one person was missing.
GRAND ISLE, La. ? An offshore oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of the April blast that caused the massive oil spill.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel says the blast was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 9:30 a.m. CDT Thursday. Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site, about 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.
Ranel says it hasn't been determined whether the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig or whether workers were aboard. Ranel says smoke was reported but it is unclear whether the rig is still burning.
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

An explosion has torn through an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of the blast in April that caused a huge oil spill.
The blast, which threw 13 people into the water, was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 0930 local time (1330 GMT), Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said.
It is unclear if the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig.
Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site.
The blast occurred around 130km (80 miles) south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.
Mr Ranel said smoke was reported but it is unclear whether the rig is still burning.
All 13 workers who fell into the Gulf are accounted for, the Coastguard said. On person is reportedly injured
"[They] are all wearing some sort of an immersion suit that protects them from the water," Coast Guard chief petty officer John Edwards told MSNBC.
The platform, which is not currently producing, is owned by Mariner Energy and is located in approximately 2,500ft (762m) of water, the Coast Guard said.
"Right now we're focused on search and rescue and then, ultimately, as this thing progresses we're going to be looking into the cause," Mr Edwards said.
The latest explosion comes more than four months after an blast ripped through a Deepwater Horizon rig run by BP, causing about hundreds of million gallons of oil to be released into the Gulf of Mexico.
Mariner Energy out of Texas I guess. Way smaller than the deep water horizon, since there were only 13 people on it compared to a hundred or whatever was on the BP rig.
I don't see many people pledging to give up their cars.
I know you probably meant this as a way of slamming hypocrisy esp in the US. But then again in the US, depending on where you live, you absolutely have to have a car. I do not know about Vegas, but a city that large should have a fairly decent public transportation system in place. My sister lives in Boston and does not own a car because she lives in the city and does not need one.
I live in what could be commonly referred to as 'the sticks' with a population under 2500 (2345 at the last census). There is zero public transportation here you cannot even get a taxi and with much of the population in rural areas having a car is essential.
I would love to give up my vehicle but I need it... so rather than give up the car I wish more people were clamoring for the development of alternative energy sources....even that would not kill the need for oil, we use it in so many products it looks like we will need it for generations
"The platform, known as Vermilion Oil Platform 380, was owned by Mariner Energy of Houston, according to a homeland security operations update obtained by The Associated Press. The platform was not producing oil and gas, according to the operations report."
I heard fox has pics of joe biden on the platform with a big lighter lol maybe its because the bush admin cut back on so many regs for the oil industry and now we are seeing the aftermath
somehow i have to believe that obama is responsible for this...
i am just waiting for fox to tell me what to believe..
what do you think?
.
You have to admit, after decades of no problems, Obama says we're going to start drilling again and what happens right after. Yeah conspiracy, but how much to you really trust the government?

i'm just busting your balls...
but, no i dont trust the govt one bit...
however, drilling never stopped in the gulf... they are just going deeper than ever before and some of the loose regulations enacted during the bush years has led to some risk taking and that i think is more of the problem...

Damn, that's pert near the big city in out neck of the woods. In our State there is such little spent and such ridicule against renewables that I think they will wait til it is too late to do anything. Well as long as i got enuf gas for my harley, i'm ok.
Have you ever seen a "Harley" parked in front of a Physchiatrists Office?
If any of those people died, they would have been some of the most worthless deaths of all time. The instant people see "oil rig exploded in the gulf", I doubt anyone was thinking "oh shit, are the workers okay?"

WTF do you know about sharks? You live in freakin Corn Country. The most exciting thing "ya'll" got there is Gay Marriage
Luff you!
Corn Sharks.. Do you have any idea how dangerous those are? They spit corn at you at very high speeds then they eat you. They make you look like a corn on the cob, melt butter on you and they feast. Very dangerous!

They were going deeper because Obama admin was FORCING them to go deeper. They want to be drilling on land or in shallow waters but Obama is not letting them.

excellent...
i knew there was a way to blame obama for this.....
i cant believe he does not personally go out and inspect each one of these rigs himself..
instead he just acts like a lazy negro going on holliday all the time...
btw.. did you know it was safe to drill deep if you follow the same safety measures that almost every other country employ...
nevermind... them is facts and we dont need to worry about those....
finally.. i think this was a shallow drilling platform.. but lets just stick to the deep drilling obama fault story.. i like it much better...
