Pretty common??? 99.9 % of the singes do it on stage because they can not dance and exert themselves that much and still sing like that.. Madona talked about this one time and it was the reason for her starting the working out so hard.

I wouldn't say its common for a group to be nothing more than faces, having someone else do all of the music/singing. Maybe the monkees did it. Other than that I can think of any. Sure, lots of pop "musicians" lip sync on stage but its not the same.

When the Ibiza type dance tracks were all the rage, I often wondered how many of the pretty girls fronting them in videos and on chart shows like Top of The Pops were actually the ones singing on the track.
I agree they were shitty but I don't think in retro they deserved as much vilification.
