Glenn Beck promised his Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. Saturday would fundamentally transform the U.S., sounding a deeply religious note in advance of the controversial event. Some 100,000 conservative baggers ? including potential 2012 presidential candidate Sarah Palin ? are expected at the demonstration on the same spot where Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years ago to the day.
Speaking at an event at the Kennedy Center Friday night, Beck emphasized the religious aspect of his message, The Washington Post reported. "We are 12 hours away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America," Beck said, according to the Post. "It has nothing to do with this city or politics. It has everything to do with God almighty." "This is the beginning of the great awakening of America ... We must give voice to what God says we must do," he added. "My message to you tonight is stand where He wants you to stand and trust in the Lord. If He tells you to do it, do it. If you can't figure it out, He will. Just do it."
"My role is, as I see it, to wake America up to the back-sliding of principles and values and, most importantly, of God," he said. "We are a country of God. As I look at the problems in our country, quite honestly I think the hot breath of destruction is breathing on our necks."
Palin, who is expected to speak at Saturday's rally, had a similar message for a sell-out crowd at the annual fund-raising banquet of the Pennsylvania Family Institute Friday. "What else do we have, at the end of the day," beyond faith in God, Palin said.
