:mad What's Up With The Rugrats Cartoon ??

Boy, that's one fucked up cartoon there. I've been watching it for years now with my kids, seeing just about every episode and it sometimes pisses me off.

First off, those fucking people NEVER watch their kids, they go everywhere and turn their backs and they're gone wandering around, getting into stuff. How about that episode where the 2 days Dru and Stu took Tommy and Chucky to that big toy store, they got out of the buggy and put some stuffed animals in their place, while their dumb ass dads drove their buggies through the store, then loaded them into the car and got all the way home before realizing that the babys weren't there.

Secondly, what's up with Grandpa ?? just about every time he watches the kids, he falls asleep and the kids do what they wanna do. Is that trying to give the impression that old people are incompitent ???

THEN Angelica, what a little bitch she is, she deserves a good kick in the ass. Always lying to the babies to scare the shit outta them, and always calling them "Stupid Babies", is that to teach older siblings to call their younger siblings stupid ???

I know I know, it's just a cartoon, my wife tells me that all the time. Even though it is, it still bugs the hell outta me. I think that they should have the cartoon Social Services called on their asses for neglect.

Good Lord.

Rugrats is hilarious.

It's meant for kids, not adults. That's what's so funny about it and you're getting so pissed. Kids want to see dreams and hopes coming true, not some stupid cartoon where they have perfect parents.

Each baby has its own personality, they almost cover all the various personalities there are.

Tommy is a leader.

Chucky is a pussy, but very loyal and will overcome all fears for his friends.

Phil and Lil, followers.

Angelica, a spoiled brat from a "rich" family. We all know them.

The show is for humor, not a lesson in life. Want to teach your kids good values and morals? Do it yourself. Expecting the TV to teach kids about life is a joke.

Hey, I'm not having tv teach my kids life. I'm a full time master here, so I spend a lot of time teaching them how life is. I guess that I should rephrase that I don't sit here all pissed off. I should've said that it gets to me, those might've been more choice words, he he he.

If you think I'm bad, I know of a couple of people that won't let their kids watch it. You have to admit, some episodes show a negative theme like the episode when Grandpa is watching Angelica and Tommy with that voice changer and ole Grandpa falls asleep while Angelica takes the voice changer and uses it DIRECTLY DISOBEYING her parents not to use it. So she orders all of this shit with it pretending to be her mom. At the end when Grandpa wakes up and has a pile of food sitting there that Angelica ordered, he tries to COVER UP his mistakes and outright LIES to their parents rather than being truthful. That's not a good message to pass on to people.

Maybe I should stick to Veggie Tales, ha ha ha.

Not many TV shows have "good messages" to pass though man. It's entertainment. I watch The Osbournes because it's hilarious, not because it teaches me how to tell my dad to go fuck himself.

I know many people who won't let their kids watch Harry Potter and LOTR because of religious overtones. I always find that hilarious. I actually had an argument with my grandma about this the other day. She couldn't believe everyone loved LOTR, there's such "religious overtones" in it. So I asked if she had ever seen it or read the books... of course not! I just find it funny how people love to criticize before actually experiencing it (not referring to you).

I'm more worried about the kids listening to gangster rap and watching South Park than I am Rugrats.

I still think it's hilarious.

I find that attitude about LotR fascinating, in a "people are really stupid" kind of way. I can't see ANY religious overtones in it...at one point, Gandalf says something about "the power of our law" to the Balrog (one of my favorite sequences, BTW) but never anything religious. I think people must be freaking out because it's about "magic", which is of course "evil and pagan."

On the contrary, watching LotR (obsessively, since my daughter apparently has a mad crush on Elijah Wood now ) has been the catalyst for some really interesting ethical discussions at my house, about how the One Ring takes control of your darkest wishes, and why it's wrong to actually act on those kind of wishes, the battle between good and evil, the evil that lurks in the hearts of Men, that kind of thing. Philosopical discussions with an 8 year old are a trip.

And any magical or pagan religious content would be perfectly cool in my house anyway, since we're all -- husband, daughter, and girlfriend included -- Witches.

And as for Rugrats or any other cartoons...the best thing I can suggest is to watch it with your kids, as much as you can, and talk to them about the stuff they see, on a level they are ready to grasp. If you don't like the stuff about how Angelica acts like a spoiled little twat and disobeys her parents, use that as an opportunity to reinforce your values about behavior. Any show can be turned into a conversation that enriches your kids' lives and makes them aware of your values and beliefs. And it's a great way of being involved and attentive to them, too.

About LOTR and the religious overtones... I must be really ignorant. I just don't see it. The movie is basically about good fighting evil, and kicking some evil ass while doing it. I see crosses and such all over the place.

It has to be the magic.

Magic is evil and doesn't exist, yet there's some Being floating around up in the sky waiting for me to die. Mmm... kay.

He he he, yeah, I guess that it is just a cartoon and if their parents did watch them, there wouldn't be anything interesting happening.

I like other cartoons like Rocket Power and Sponge Bob, those are fun to watch and they don't have all of the negativity, he he he.

yeah, we need more threads about disturbing gay sig buttons ;)

I freely admit to being a hardcore Spongebob watcher and Fairly Odd Parents ("I found it on the internet"). I'm not much into them, but my kids like Rocket Power and Wild Thornberries.

My youngest of course watches Dora and Blues Clues and unfortunately that freaking Oswald...Jesus fuck me, that's one seriously fucked up cartoon....It makes me want to punch Fred Savage and that Squiggy guy in the face...

I like the Fairly Oddparents, too. And when Samurai Jack comes on, the whole family plops down in front of the TV together. Jack rocks.
