Give it a rest Pastor Spam Alot...
I don't condone any overtly or genuine racism, and that is most certainly not what I have been doing, and I doubt that most of the other people posting in your spam threads have seriously meant to be as malicious as you perceive them to be (although there are some posts which I felt were insensitive or crossed the line).
Calling me a racist is outright looney tunes. I grew up in Hawaii as a minority (same island as our President), and after that lived in Asia for years as a minority (some of those years during my six years in the Navy, and many more years as a civilian), so I am pretty attuned to, and have experienced, racism myself. I also lived in the South for awhile and witnessed firsthand racism towards black people.
In college, I was first a Social Work major and then a Sociology major, before getting my degree in History, with a focus on Social Movements (Abolition. Suffrage, Civil Rights, Women's Rights, etc).
I organized the Progressive Student Alliance (a multi-ethnic group that took over the student government from the predominately white frat system which had run student politics for years at my University). I was also member of the Mandela Coalition which organized against apartheid. It's pretty safe to say that I was one of the most well-known (and at times targeted) activists during my six years of college.
As a leader of the Students for Peace, and more recently my local Peace Center, I have ridden the Freedom Train to several MLK Memorial Marches. I also campaigned on behalf of Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama for President.
When I moved into the corporate world, I worked both for and alongside, many minority people. Once I moved up through the ranks and became a manager, and then executive, I deliberately filled my staffs with qualified women and minorities, causing people to joke that I was the token white guy on my staff.
Even in adult, I work primarily with minority people...my main MUAs, Production Assistants, and Photographers, are all minority people (Asian, Black or Latino). In order to not discriminate, I work with white people sometimes too, lol.
People that have seen my crew at various shoots or shows can verify this. Playboy TV, when they did a special piece on my ADG website, focused on how although I have an ethnic niche site, I consciously try to avoid racial stereotypes, which the models/performers they interviewed attested to as well.
Finally, get this, I'm married to a minority woman (a foreigner at that), and just so nobody thinks I married some third world desperate to move to the US person, my wife has a Masters Degree, and also makes over six-digits a year.
In addition to doing business, many of us come on GFY, to, well, fuck around. You obviously don't know me, however, I have conducted business with dozens of companies and hundreds of people here over the years.
You automatically thought that I was being racist when I posted a photo of Watermelon Slim who is white, and plays a particular style of blues, called hoochie coochie, in your coochietube spam thread. Likewise, when I posted other pictures of white people with watermelons in another thread of yours, you quickly assumed that it was racist, when in fact I was trying to demonstrate that a watermelon by itself is not inherently racist (I doubt that you even noticed the people were white in that thread, since you automatically branded it racist).
I do things like that sometimes just to get people thinking. Sometimes it sails over their head, or their filters/prejudices make them unable to see things in any way different from what they have become conditioned to believe.
For every post of mine that you can try to spin to make me appear racist, I can show you five more, that in no uncertain terms, demonstrate my opposition to racism. I guess you missed the recent lynching threads where I quoted Langston Hughes and spoke out against the racism in that thread. Oh well, I guess people only see what they want to see...
If you want to confront real racism, then organize a counter-protest to Glen Beck and his band of bigots that are planning a rally this Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial Statue on the anniversary of (and same location as) MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech.
Those are your real enemies, and the ones who should be the target of your wrath. :2 cents:
