Depends what you are shooting for, to maintain a good physique doesn't take a lot of work since your muscles take a while of no attention to regress, to work on your conditioning requires more dedication.

I workout almost every day at the gym. And when I don't, I feel really bad. It is an addiction at this point... some people need their coffee and cigs... I need my workout! It also helps that my trainer is a hot young college guy ;)
5 days weightlifting, 2 days hard cardio. Light cardio on all days.

How much time you have to spend lifting weights/doing cardio depends on your bodytype and the individual, every single person is different when it comes to losing weight. One thing is the same, losing weight = burning more calories than your taking in. If youre completely out of shape, sometimes all it takes is eating right and jogging once or twice a week.
If you don't go atleast twice a week, you can't really get into the routine, you have nothing to really build on. Once you go enough, your body starts to crave it, which helps you actually enjoy the gym

Not sure what "Staying in shape" means in this context. 80% of your body transformation is done in the kitchen, so you can work out 6 days a week and still be a fatass if you eat 6,000 calories a day. I eat about 500 calories below maintenance, lift 5-6 days a week, and do cardio 5-6 days a week. Currently approaching 10% body fat.
Shoulders/Triceps on Monday
Back on Tuesday
Wednesday Rest
Chest/Biceps Thursday
Legs on Friday
Saturdays and Sundays are rest days
(Abs on Mondays and Thursdays)
You shouldn't go everyday. Your body needs rest days as much as it needs exercise. If you're doing mostly compound exercises and cardio stuff, you can go more days, but if you have a heavier routine, you need at least 3 rest days in between muscle groups.

5 days a week, you don't have to go hard every day, sometimes on a busy day just a quick trip to the gym for 20 minutes of cardio is perfect and makes you feel so much better

I walk/run 4-5 miles a day at the beach or on the treadmill. I do weights 5 days a week. I have a gym set up in my house that I spent lots of money on so I can stay in top notch shape. We only have one body so we better take care of it while we can.

Honestly, I don't know how you can run a biz like this and NOT exercise. I know that sounds stupid, but most jobs are a lot more physically demanding than rolling out of your bed and going to your computer.
If I didn't workout I'd feel like a limp dick noodle.

I let myself go for years and I felt like that. I have been on a diet and exercise routine now for 4 mos. I feel great, lost 40 lbs so far (20-40 more to go, depending on how far I take it), and its worth it. The limp dick noodle thing just hit the nail on the head. I really had no upper body strength after years of sitting here programming and doing no physical exercise. Now I do an hour 4-5 times a week (15 min upper body, 45 min on treadmill) and I feel great. It's just all around better for your state of mind as well imho.
2 or 3 times a week is plenty enough to maintain, but an insane body needs more. I just got back into shape recently, and after about 3 weeks off, I can see some titties coming back.

i've noticed the peeps who start these threads are never serious about it. they usually never reply back in them, never start another thread saying "hey, i took that workout advice and here's my results", nada, nothing, zilch. i even started a thread asking for peeps who've started threads like these to report in with results- not one replied.
the cats who are serious like tony299, net horse, carlos the gaucho, dlxphil, the demon, don't start threads like this, they just get busy and stay busy.
When I have a big shoot coming up, Like Calvin Klein, I try to go 3 times a week to work on my abs and tone up. If nothing is scheduled, I just eat junk food and not workout at all.
Currently I eat around 3100 calories/day (I'm bulking up until next summer) and go to the gym 3 times a week (3-split). For around 1.5 hour each time. Al it takes to be in shape!

You can lose weight with mainly diet and 3+ days of cardio and some lifting. You can get big with a solid diet and lifting heavy. You can get ripped with big muscles with a great diet, a lot of lifting and a good amount of cardio. If you want to look like a pro bodybuilder, add steroids to the mix.
Either way, if your diet isn't in order, you won't see very good results no matter what you do in the gym. You also need 8 hours of sleep every night.
I eat fairly well, lift 5+ times a week and do cardio (high intensity interval training) 2-3 times per week.
I workout five times a week...M,W,F I do weights and cardio afterwards....Tue,Th I do cardio and then Pilates afterwards. I mostly rest on saturdays and sundays with an "executive workout" which entails shower/jacuzzi/sauna/steamroom/shower.
