ever gotten ultra sick from eating fried foods?

i've been eating nothing but healthy foods for months now, with an occasional cheat meal, but have cut out fried foods entirely over this time.

out & about saturday night i cheated and had a big pile of fish&chips, became violently ill later and have lost over 12 pounds out the back door over the last 2 nights.

spent this morning getting an electrolyte IV, doctor said it was all due to my not being able to digest fried foods properly since i've discontinued them.

ever heard of that?

There is a great place for breakfast in town, food is awesome, but 30 mintues later, it's cleans you out. I don't know what they use, but it works like clockwork on me

I'd bet it had more to do with bad fish than the shock of fried food to the body.

I agree. I don't think you have been off fried foods long enough for it to have that kind of effect on you.

Yea, sounds more like food poisoning to me... to vomit so much you have to have ingested something truly bad to make the sickness escalate and maintain as much as it did.

On the plus side, theres not too many people that can lose weight from eating fried food.

Well, I've had a similar experience but I never got "violently ill".

I went to India and ate nothing but light vegetarian home cooked shit for a month. Came back to the states and started eating fried food and red meat and felt sick from it.

There's a small possibility the batter was made with an egg from the salmonella outbreak. Pretty slim chance though.

yeah, that was my family's concern initially and i thought the same, egg batter. but i never got *sick* no vomiting, no nausea, nothing but the squirts. ugh.

anyhoo, feeling so much better with my electrolytes charged up. doc ordered me to drink 1.5 gallons of water/sugar free electrolytes for the rest of the week at least.

I know you can grow intolerant to fried foods, not to a point where it will make you sick. I too had a stint where I didn't eat any fried foods for about 90 days, then later I had some fried meat and french fries and I felt so ill and heavy after. Staying away from fried stuff is the way to go.

Sadly it's so incredibly tasty.

once every 6 months i get a craving for the taste of McDonalds and get a BigMac and QP with cheese. and every time I feel like dying afterwards. i could eat burgers off the bbq every day and not feel that way. digestive system is a finicky thing, if you don't eat certain types of foods for a long time, it seems to react like it's been poisoned.

it's like weed or alcohol tolerance, people who smoke and drink daily just get a little buzz - somebody who smokes or drinks rarely will get wasted very quickly.

Yep.

I had a bizarre combo of tacos and fries tonight; a local (now closed) mom & pop offered them as a special once, and now I'm hooked. I'll have it about once or twice a year.

I am praying for death and hope I can vomit before the calories hit, or slide on through.

amazing how your body can adapt to rejecting food that's bad for you. I can't do McDs burgers or fried clams anymore without getting an upset stomach.

I have Chron's Disease as well as a lactose intolerance and IBS. My digestive system is a total mess.

Fried foods are one of the things that do a number on me. But I still love to eat anything that's been fried up, so I just deal with it.

By eating fried food, you're also actually eating about a table spoon of frying oil. If that oil isn't fresh or they use the "hard" lumps as frying oil, then that could cause a massive blow to your digestive system, especially if you aren't used to or have been off of fried foods for an extended period of time.

MY GI tract is a little fucky too. If I ate a pile of fish and chips same thing would happen to me, only add vomiting, but 1 day of that and I'm done.

Sucks that happened to you, only had to be rehydrated once before, and it was when I was at my absolute sickest. Hope you didn't wind up spending too much time in the ER to get it done.

I agree with this....doesn't mean that you had to throw up, but it probably didn't sit well with your digestive track

MY GI tract is a little fucky too. If I ate a pile of fish and chips same thing would happen to me, only add vomiting, but 1 day of that and I'm done.

Sucks that happened to you, only had to be rehydrated once before, and it was when I was at my absolute sickest. Hope you didn't wind up spending too much time in the ER to get it done.
hi Shelly! only took about 3 hours, lolz. and yes, it was a pile of fish&chips.

ola amigo, i hear ya. it's pretty amazing how our digestive tracts need to be accustomed to these sorts of foods eh. it says a lot about our diets/foods consumed.

how's the nutrition plan and such going for you these days?

Yeah, I feel ya for sure. I can only do fried foods in very small amounts. Like anything more than a few french fries and I'm done. I'm used to it now, shit's no good for me anyway. I miss getting fish and chips, love malt vinegar, the only thing I can get at a pub is usually the ploughman's platter, that kinda sucks, but so does most english food
