1. Look around there are lots of good deals
2. Go to the local sales offices they always have engligh people to show you around
3. Dont commit to long term, 3 months at most, then you can pick up and leave with one month damage deposit and go somewhere else. and you will want that if you get into a relationship with a Thai girl , sometimes the only way to get rid of them is to move out
4. Make sure the electric and water is controlled by the government and not the landlord, landlord can rip you off
5. Avoid having a place right beside a bar. at first I thought it was fun because the girls would come out and greet you everytime you went home... but after a while it became insane i couldnt even go to the store without getting girls crawling all over me... haha i know boo hoo you had girls wanting sex with you ...but sometimes u just want to go to the damn store!!!!
6. Get AC or you are going to die, find a place with newer AC units those old AC units are expensive

2-4 weeks in Pattaya is more than enough for a bit of fun, then you will get sick and tired of the BS, scam and so on especially if you have experienced other parts of Thailand, some love the place others hate it. I stay in Thailand now and have no plans on ever going to Pattaya again.
If you are planning on staying in Thailand for more than 1-2 months get a hotel room first and try out if Pattaya is for you, you can get a 1 bedroom room for $1K a month with no problems.Truth TellerComment

arrived today. Have a sick hostel in Jomtien Beach area. Super clean + Cheap. Thai people are all smiles and I can eat well for less than $5 per day. Not really into dealing with the whores unless I get fucking wrecked which is not my plan. I felt Jomtien Beach was my best bet since it's outside of central and I can get wrk done....So far so good. Might pony up for a month - after that I might check out Samui

I rent a 1400 sqm house close to the center of a city of 30-40K people I pay less than $150 a month but then comes TV, electric, water and so on but all in all its very cheap
It is very cheap here and more so if you avoid the tourist spots. Food that cost 30 baht at the food stall in Pattaya cost 20 baht here.

My only question would be, why would you ever want to live in Pattaya? I've spent loads of time in Pattaya, and currently live in a city in Issan. After experiencing things up here, I couldn't ever imagine going back to that sleaze infested shithole.
Really, come on up to Issan, as it's WAY better. You don't have to constantly look over your shoulder, and wonder whether or not you're getting scammed / fucked. If you're just looking for cheap hookers, then no worries. You can easily find people up here to fuck you for $35. Then again, if that's the only reason you're coming, maybe it's best not to come, and just stay in Pattaya. It's available, but I don't ever indulge in it, as I'm already in a long-term relationship.
Really though, Issan is great, and I love it up here. Used to live in a luxury condo in downtown Vancouver, hanging out with rich guys all the time, etc. If I had to choose, I'll take Issan over Vancouver any day. Same with you as rent. Nice, 2 storey, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, large patio, kitchen, etc... for $150/month. Then maybe another $150/month (at most) for bills, and that's it. Yet, we still manage to spend a good $3500/month.

I agree with this. It seems Pattaya attracts the lower end for just about everyone, including tourists. I spent a few days there and ran back to southern Thailand as quickly as I could. Pattaya is a shit hole full of the worst Thais and foreigners. If I wasn't shooting here exploiting their STD riddled whores, I would never set foot in this dump. Now with the influx of Arab and Indian whore mongers, it has gone from bad to worse, which is impressive because I didn't think that was possible after the Russians invaded, overpaying for everything and shooting the prices up.
Best thing that can happen to Pattaya is one of these dirty Arabs blows himself up in the middle of Walking Street with a suitcase Nuke. Someone needs to press the reset button on Thailand's toilet. Never been to Surin myself, and I guess it all depends on who you are, and what your life is like. Bangkok I'm sure is great. It's a huge metropolis, so you can get anything & everything you want there. Whatever kind of lifestyle you want, it's there.
I live in Khon Kaen myself, and I love it here. To be honest, I couldn't imagine ever going back to downtown Vancouver. Personally, I'm never bored at all. I work all day, then something always comes up late afternoon / night. Whether I just hang out with a couple friends for beers and pool, or we have a good 20 man party here, or go somewhere else for a party, or whatever... there's always something going on.

If its out in the sticks there are no real estate agents but most is handled by word of mouth I went to one of the local watering holes for foreigners and asked around and the owner's wife helped us out and that seems to be how most people do it, always someone that have lived there forever that knows everything and many of the foreigners here at least are always willing to share info.Truth TellerComment
