Thing is I've seen a big difference..
e.g.
80% = 5-7 joins a day
70% 18-25 joins a day
etc..
word. but bounce rate is not an independent key to success is what i mean. it's part of the bigger equation. not sure what a decent bounce rate is on pay sites but on free sites i shoot for 50% or else i'm going back to the drawing board.

So, if a surfer stays on your website, and actually sees your content, he's more likely to join than if he just closed the window? Eureka!
If you are aiming for a 70% bounce rate then there is something very very wrong with your site...
Agreed.
I have NEVER had a pay site that high. I do not think I have had any that high now that I think about it, other than an unfinished web site. My traffic tubes are around 10-15% and my tube pay sites are around 25-35%. They also convert and retain well (45-50%) on very little traffic.
Bounce rates can be used to help determine the effectiveness or performance of an entry page. An entry page with a low bounce rate means that the page effectively causes visitors to view more pages and continue on deeper into the web site.[3]
Google Analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated: "My own personal observation is that it is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying. I stress that this is my personal analysis...."[4]
This measure however needs to be interpreted relative to a website's objective. On an ecommerce site, where the sole aim may be to sell products online, the bounce rate is a primary concern and useful measurement. Information sources and sites which drive the customer to make contact via email or phone may see much higher bounce rates. This may not be a bad thing as they are only viewing one page of the site (but contacting the company).
Since when did you start using big internet terms like "Bounce Rate" ??? My my my... This once unaffiliated show/expo attending std infested ass biting Mexican has gone from fanboy to licensed webmaster! Congrats

Niched websites without affiliate programs and accessible streaming videos (tubes I assume) will easily end up with a much lower bounce rate than affiliate/tgp/tube promoted paysite tours...
i do not agree with this at all
i have tested this several times on paysites
and found bounce rate has nothing to do with joins on paysites
in fact the more hits you send to the join page the more joins you will get out of it (which makes sense)
problem is if you only have 2 pages like a home page + a join page then you will have a very high bounce rate
sucks for stats but in the end only sales matter
for free sites bounce rate matters more since you want to keep the traffic on your site as long as possible

Considering historically ALL of my pay sites (including those without videos, celeb, etc.) followed the same low bounce rates (under 35%), guess that shows how little you really know about the type of sites I was referring to over my decade plus of being a WM.
But feel free to keep pulling assumptions and generalizations out ye arse.

And I bet none of those shit sites had affiliate programs as mentioned in my original post. Look, all I'm saying is that a higher bounce rate would be typical for the kind of site/business model that fatso is representing compared to your business model.

Fair enough.
I'll defer to your original remarks. I simply have no interest in fighting about it.
