A word about girlfriend sites...

Well, it seems the cat is out of the bag on these types of sites...girlfriend sites convert like crazy and seem to have went from fad to niche being offered by "major" programs...

There is a problem I'm seeing with this though...

If you are a program (big or small) and putting out a girlfriend site, make sure it looks AMATEUR. The same old slick tours with fancy high end graphics just don't convert as well as those sites that actually look like they were put together by a spurned boyfriend.

Stop with all the fancy stuff and just stick with the basics: pictures that look amatuerish and an embedded video player. Seeing obvious porn stars with perfect bodies on these sites will convert for shit. All those video before that had the bad lighting and poor cinematography...the ones that used to be filler content if even used at all...they are now golden ;-)

Are sponsors really not getting the move to Web2.0/social media type sites tours? There is money on the table for those who can adjust and adapt and who "get it".

They will be the same ones crying about low conversions and blame tubes and everything else, yet fail to make any sort of adjustment towards a different model than the one they already know.

Content providers...here is your chance to shoot the girls you might have turned away in the past because they don't fit the "glam" mold...here is your chance to shoot them without makeup and tons of lighting. Jump in and grab the cash....

I think people in the industry are too caught up on the "exgf" part of it.

Surfers just want real girls. You can sell this a lot of different ways and not just churn out another EXGF clone.

THAT is a VERY valid point... I hear that ALL THE TIME from friends of mine not involved in the adult industry...

However the way I see it exgf has become an easy search term for surfers. Finding what you're looking for can be very difficult when there's generic terms involved... "exgf" is four letters typed with your non-mouse hand, practically an internet meme now, and the adult industry has adopted the term so when you search for it, you're getting what you're looking for...

The thing to take away from all of this is that surfers want to feel closer to the girls and the content, and when they feel tantalizingly close, they will start buying again. A pic of a regular girl seems really attainable and close to home, so you feel buying it will get you that much closer. A pornstar getting fucked in some trendy L.A. home is a million miles away, and buying the content won't make you feel any closer.

In retail, there are countless studies that show if someone holds a product in their hand, they are several times more likely to buy it. I think "reality" style adult content is the online equivalent of holding a product in your hand. It seems so close.

People want the internet to facilitate them getting closer to what they want or like. It's not just a clearing house of information anymore.

But I think there are lessons to be learned from the exgf niche for almost anyone in adult no matter what type of sites you run.

I prefer to still shoot the cute, young American girls that I normally do for the high end shoots, just with a different style and using a point & shoot camera to make it authentic. Speaking to my customers and potential customers and getting feedback has really helped me zero in on what they want.

The niche is still hot for sure but the saying "By the time everybody finds out the gold has already been mined" definetly applies here. No doubt alot of money to still be made but the niche is starting to cool off in my opinion meaning the climax has already been hit.

for christ's sake, "big" sponsors...if you want to hire me to consult on how to build tours that convert this kind of traffic, let me know...in the meantime, it's getting sad to see so many programs take a swing and miss with this niche...

It doesn't have to be a bunch of 4chan ripped content to work right, it just has to be presented right...stop outsourcing every single thing to your offshore worker you're paying $1 a day and put some work into it.

It's been weird, it seems guys who know how to run programs can't run these types of sites right and the guys getting the sites right can't keep their programs open or just disappear...these two types of companies should work together...

I see sets for sale, all the girls in the same bathroom, taking pics of themselves with the same camera, usually known girls... totally missing the idea of amateur "GF" sites.

Someone else in this thread nailed it, cater to your customers fantasy and don't worry about anything else. Its ALL about creating that fantasy. It isn't about HD, slick tours, scripts, CSS or tables, it's about selling the fantasy. Those who can do that make a good living in the business. Those who can't chase their tails and always wonder why they have poor sales.

We don't have to pretend to get this type of content. We actually get the real deal... and we sit on a mountain of it almost thirty years in the making.

I completely agree though... most don't get amateur sub-niches at all. I remember when we were first partnered with CE back in the day and their tours for our site was doing less than half what my crappy looking truly amateur tour did, the one they all made fun of, until the numbers proved its worth beyond the shadow of a doubt.
