    Destination weddings are a scam!

    The bride and groom usually get a free honeymoon/wedding from the resort by getting all their friends and family to haul ass down to Mexico or wherever and spend a a fuck ton of money at an all inclusive resort when they could just have it near where they, or the majority of their friends and family live. But oh no, then they would actually have to pay for everybody's food and drinks and not get a free honeymoon.

    Its a fuckin scam!

    Who asks people to drop 1000s to go to a wedding during a recession?

                                                                          But i have a 2 friends that have everything and are getting married next month. My friend told me that nobody needs to bring them a gift. Then i recommended Destination Wedding. The have a deal where everyone who goes to the wedding(which will be kind of local), instead of bringing a gift, they can all chip in for the Honeymoon.


                                                                          Its a great alternative for the people that already have everything.

Though instead of comping the bride/groom would be cooler if they knocked the price down for everyone else or something like that. The actually 'wedding' is bs but whatever its fun

                                                                                                  I have no problem paying for this wedding. Its basically peanuts to me. Its the principle. I know some of the guests who are close friends with the bride or groom and were invited but they have kids, are out of work etc. and cant just drop $2500 for a 3 day fiesta in Mexico.

                                                                                                              Destination weddings are usually all paid for. Everything is meant to be paid for by the brides father in tradition.

                                                                                                              I suppose the difference could be asking everyone to pay for their own flights but the rooms & food is paid for... this could be a happy ending. In this case of the bride wanting a freebie.. Bitch.

I don't find it to be my responsibility to pay for somebody else's wedding. I give a gift, of course, but it's nothing extravagant. The cost of weddings are getting out of hand and the bride and groom should not expect to pawn that off on their guests. Those guests have other weddings and other obligations.

                                                                                                                                              Yeah I hear ya, and I can see how it puts you in a tough spot because you're in the wedding and essentially don't have a choice. I think instead of the bride and groom working out a deal to get their accommodations free, they should have negotiated a group rate for everyone to stay at a reduced rate because they were having their wedding there, sounds like they got a little greedy. Obviously if you hadn't seen the email you'd have never known.

                                                                                                                                                                          Why do you worry about what they are paying or not paying so much, you should be happy for your friends who have LOTS of other expenses to make it all happen. Is it coming out of your pocket? no. I think it's pretty standard for the bride and groom to get comped at these destination weddings. My friends got married in Dominican, went for 3 weeks including honeymoon, and I think the first 2 weeks were comped.
