Well, the point of paying people to do all of that work is so you can go off and do whatever you want to do with your time. The things that you truly enjoy. Like surfing. Or whatever. So if you did not utilize the time you bought, then yes, it was a waste. If you did utilize it and live the fuck out of it, I wouldn't say you wasted it at all.

Money is just a tool. It won't make a sad person happy.

That is not at all what I'm saying. That's how you interpreted it. What I am saying is, the more you make, the lazier you get. You start paying for everything to be done, and no... you don't enjoy the time that the money buys you by hiring staff to clean pools and do the landscaping. You sit in your office and work even more during that time to make even more money. Then ten years later you emerge from your hole, a fat, pasty white pornster with a big bank account, but you've missed everything else along the way.

Yes, sometimes getting your hands dirty is part of living life. But if you get your satisfaction out of drinking a diet Coke and sitting on the sofa, then go for it man! Nobody is fucking stopping you in the least.
