Florida ready for even tougher immigration law
A few hours ago Attorney General Bill McCollum announced plans to bring a law that would go even further than the the one in Arizona. The proposed law will be introduced in the next legislative session.
" ORLANDO, Fla. -- Attorney General Bill McCollum announced plans Wednesday to bring a law similar to the controversial Arizona immigration law to Florida. The proposed Florida law would go even further than the one in Arizona. The proposed law will be introduced in the next legislative session. McCollum said the bill is much stronger than the law Arizona just passed. Supporters say they've made enough changes that they can get the bill past a federal challenge. It was no secret Attorney General Bill McCollum is a big supporter of the Arizona immigration law and it's sure to ignite similar controversy in Florida. McCollum announced the new legislation Wednesday morning, joined by several Florida lawmakers, including State Representative William Snyder of Stuart, who wrote the bill. It would require law enforcement officers to check someone's immigration status in the course of a regular arrest or traffic stop if the officer has a reasonable suspicion that person might be illegal. That's the same kind of language that has sparked nationwide protests against the Arizona law; but, McCollum told WFTV, the Florida version specifically prohibits racial profiling. “It's not how you look, it's not what you say, in terms of your language or characteristics or national origin. That's clearly spelled out in the bill. We're doing everything we can to assure people that that is not the order of the day,” McCollum said. McCollum points out that the Florida immigration law would also create some new misdemeanors for immigrants who fail to have their documentation when they're asked to present it. Also, they could face up to 20 days in jail. The law would also increase jail time for illegal immigrants who are convicted of any other crime. McCollum is in the middle of a heated campaign for governor. He insists this is all coming out now, because he and the other lawmakers were waiting to see how the federal court would handle a challenge to the Arizona law. http://www.wftv.com/news/24592778/detail.html |

sure he came up with all this a while ago nothing to do with the fact he's losing
This idea might fly north of Orlando but south of it it's a different country pretty much. Our gardners are probably not legal, but then that's why it's probably so cheap for the HOA to hire the company. I don't see an american wearing long sleeve shirt walking in the heat cutting brush and chopping bushes for $3 an hour. Besides, if it isn't "how you look, it's not what you say, in terms of your language or characteristics or national origin" then what exactly gives a cop the suspicion you are an illegal? |

Why do states in which whites will CLEARLY be a minority in 20-25 years bother to pass these laws? Guess what white racists you're not stoping the fact you are going to be a minority. And maybe in 25 years your hispanic overlords will pass anti-white laws to get back at you. THINK about that.
I bet if Vermont passed a law which clearly was meant to stop illegal Canadians from living and working in their state people would think that was just silly and un-necessary. |

I have two responses I'm gonna bang out in one post:
1. Interesting.... two "retirement" states passing this type of shit. Coincidence? Or are our old ass senior citizens just stuck in old-school racism until they die? 2. Fuck Florida. Who cares. $.02

When I lived in FL they tried to pass a law that FL would have two official languages - English & Spanish. That failed. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. There are many more states ready to pass a law. It will get to the point where the federal govt has to do something to remedy the current situation.

You know if you put troops on the border every 100 yards and have a shoot first policy sure you'll stop 99% of illegal immigration form Mexico pretty quickly. But is that the way we want to go? |

He said the opposite, when he began his race for governor. His Republican opponent is the one mentioning that he wants a similar law as Arizona.
This guy is just playing politics.
