looks like this has been a long tradition because the people there cant grow food very easily and these are a main source for food during the winter months.

"During the winter months the Faroe Islanders´ only option was to mostly eat salted or dried food (this includes meat, pilot whale meat, seabirds and fish). OK, this is from my point of view and can be taken any way you want. I was on a submarine in the Navy as a sonar tech, my hearing is better than average. I would listen for hours to whale song and it was really something. I have also done a lot of deep sea fishing, but for fish that are plentiful, like Albacore. I would get maybe 300 lbs of Tuna each time I went. Froze some and gave away the rest to friends.
A whale is not a fish, it's a mammal, it breathes air, next people will be telling how great Dolphin is? The Dolphins would play on the wake of the sub when it was on the surface and is the mascot of the submarine Navy, all submarine Navies
