haha.. exactly
I only use 'trials' to test a new site or concept,
beside that: trials are your enemy.
I use to use trials SCREW THAT 90% of them wouldnt recure and would wait two weeks and rejoin, this in fact caused me more problems made my rebills look REAL BAD and didnt want to piss the webmasters off so I took it off the main page and made it that the webmasters have an opition on 4 different ways to bill the surfer.
if u have unique and exlusive content, trials are a good idea. I'm promoting college fuck fest right now and i'd say about 95% of trials convert to full memberships, but the trial is only offered on the exit and only part of the site can be accessed during the trial.
There are plenty of mixed messages about trials. I'm not too sure whether Quiets post "Trials Rule" was honest or not
We are making a huge overhaul of our site and are considering a Trial offerring. However, we would not allow them to download more than a few movies. Give them a max number of downloads/streams for the Trial, and hopefully get them to convert when they have run out. Seems fair.
I am sure there are other sites doing this, like College Fuck Fest, just offerring part of their site for the Trial Members.
actually when i had a site it had around 200k images was back in 1999, was promoted for 3 weks by Cybererotica, and was free for 7 days then $39.99 a month.
It did very well, had almost no chargebacks and no fraud.
People who say dont do free trials say that because they dont have the amount of content to hold someone for more then a few hours, I used to joinpaysites all the time to see what the competition had on me, 9 times out of 10 it was nothing.
The site ? nunya, but it is still alive although I sold it and went into content brokering.

This thread was a good one, but then it died. So I'm playing Lazarus and bringing the fucker back.
I'm dropping the trail on my site tomorrow, after having run it for three years. Mainly because I'm bringing a slew of streaming vids in, that require that I pay for the bandwidth after a certain ceiling is hit.
Would like to hear from others who dropped trials -- and started offering just a flat monthly rate.
How'd it go after you made the transition? Huge drop in signups? Regret leading to drug-binging and suicidal thoughts? Jubilation and tears of joy?
Depends on if you have good backend or not. Cheaper trials work better with better backends. I personally would do $1 for 1 day if I had a paysite (renewing to $24.95/month).

I use a $6.95 trial. On one of my sites, I use it as an exit popup from my regular signup page. I find that works well, because it doesn't detract much from full-price sales.

Where do you get Asian hardcore videos from? I've never seen a Japanese content provider listed on any webmaster resource site.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!
ill give ya 4 weeks once ou implement trials and you will be removing that trial option so fuckin fast it wont even be funny
couldn't agree more Biz... trials suck. tried them once, and actually started losing long-time members to our site who saw that they could sign up for a trial every week or two and download all the recent content, then cancel immediately. while we have no problem retaining recurring signup's, the trial signups seemed total bandwidth leeches, cant understand why any paysite w/ decent content would use them..!

thats why I give them a month for a buck, they don't feel pressured. you just have to float alot of cash if affiliates are pushing it.
if its your own traffic no worries it converts sick

Yep, that seems to be the decisive factor. I've def got the content and quality -- it's just that I've noticed over the last six months that trials converting to recurring were dropping, more and more. Lots of people signing up for the trial and going IMMEDIATELY to the cancel page/button; it's as if they didn't even really look at the site -- which tells me they were returning folks who knew they could cancel and then come back in to download all the new content in a week or two OR they're evidence of the new, 'savvied,' porn shoppers; folks who swoop in via a trail, slurp up as much bandwidth as they can and then bail.
I've gotta say, with the economy as fucked up as it is right now, and everyone getting their Xmas Visa bills, etc. etc. -- it's sorta scary making this radical of a change to my sites business plan; but something tells me I just gotta do it. Ya know?
Still, I'd like to hear from more of you who dropped trials and just went with a standard mothly fee. How'd it go?
on the join page, I tell them that they can get a 9.95 three day trial and a 19.95 monthly option. But once they get to the "actual" CCbill page, they'll only see the 19.95 option. I figure if I already got them committed to the ccbill page, they should just say "fuck it" and go ahead and pay for the monthly...
When I DIDN'T mention a trial on my join page after I took off my trial, sales went down a little..but now they're back to being ok....

Every once in a while, I'll put trials in so people nervous about paying full freight can see how good the inside of the site really is. I'm confident surfers will like the inside because we have the niche leaders, but I usually do not offer trials because I also feel the sites are more than worth the price. Plus, that way I don't get the on again/off again rejoin thing going on. Trials definitely bring in the bandwidth hogs though.
I'd recommend you test both with different front ends. We've never used trials of any kind and found that works better for us, but then we let the surfer see the members section before they buy.

I don't understand Interlude -- what do you mean they see the members section before they buy?
