i'd welcome filipinos - my best Flash animation guy i've ever used is a Filipino but he vanished into thin air around Christmas time ........ with 300 dollars of mine.

I never used that site, but I use many similar sites a lot and I have noticed the same thing. 90% of the bids are Indians and most of the time they do not even read the project description and just copy/paste the same generic response to everyone. There are a few exceptions, but they are rare.

they do fine on there, there are an endless amount of mainstream people like church groups, families, volunteer organizations, small businesses etc who use the freelance sites and they love it. you can read the reviews.

'Sanjit did a wonderful job for me, I couldn't be more satisfied with banners for our family reunion' and it's pure crap but those people aren't competing with 10,000 other paysites for traffic and sales.

the reason i was so pissed and cranky was the job i posted has two parts - one of them needs a skilled Flash animation person - the other part is very simple, animated text.
so this one guy, Ramaramadingdong, is insisting in private messages that he is the man for the job. I ask him to provide a sample of character animation and he provides something that looks like an animated GIF with drawings made in MS Paint. So i politely tell him that his 'style' doesn't match what i want. So he comes back and almost demands he will do the simple text animation part of the job and do it for 50 dollars. I'm feeling bad for the guy, I figure he can't screw up this simple text animation, so I say 'ok you can do the text animation'. What this forces me to do is close down the project and go create another project for the harder part. So at midnight last night he emails me to go on MSN, and sends me the three text animations and before I even look at them he's ordering me to 'please make payment sir' - and i say 'before I even look at what you've done?'. so i open these files and yes he's managed to fuck up a simple job, and he's like 'good job yes sir?' and i don't know what to say because I'm a very good hearted person and don't want to tell him it's complete crap and I'm not giving him 50 dollars, so I tell him 'give me a few minutes, i want to show these to a colleague and get his opinion' - which I do and he sees the mess, the spacing between lines is messed up, the text takes forever to run through its animation and there are weird artifacts being produced - so I come back to him on MSN and tell him what's wrong, he goes 'ok, i fix' - he goes off for 20 minutes, comes back and send me the files again, and i sigh, he hasn't fixed anything, i have no idea what he did to fix it because it looks the exact same. So i go into photoshop and show him what the final result should look like. He goes away for an hour and comes back, sends me the files again and it's somewhat better but still not acceptable. So i have to tell him again and we're already a couple hours into this and I'm feeling bad for him - i have a folder with about 15 different versions he kept sending me - by the time I finished with him it was 6 hours to get 3 simple text animations. I had told him at some stage in this arduous process of getting 3 simple text animations out of him that if he finished them exactly like the sample I gave him i'd pay him an extra 25 dollars. Which I did even though his final versions were still not great, but usable. So I tell him I'm dead tired, i'm going to bed and 'thanks, take care'. As I'm clicking the MSN window shut, I see him typing again - so i wait, 'Sir please go and make a review!' First I'm thinking i don't want to give him a review because those reviews are to help other people and I wouldn't recommend this guy to anybody. So I say 'I'm shutting down now, tomorrow i will do it' And he whines and begs 'why can't you do it now? please make a review and give me a 10'.

i learned my lesson again, you get what u pay for 99% of the time. I'll use Silver Crocodile who did an animation for me before.

hire PROFESSIONALS and stop trying to penny pinch it will save you headache and make you more money in the long run.

id rather pay say $3k for a project rather than $500.

the $3k guy normally knows his shit. likes to be left alone. and can deliver on a date no question.

the $500 guy you have to explain everything too. has no direction. and only understand a program and not the business behind it.

pay extra for a business mind. you will never regret it.

unless you have EVERYTHING set up point by point where a monkey can follow. but most people do not.

i've spent so much money i will have to have the most successful solo girl sites on the planet to make my money back in a year, which in the real world is ok but in online porn it's a fail to break even in 12 months . i was trying to save some and like i said 'you do get what you pay for' - occassionaly in this life you do stumble upon a great deal or somebody who works cheap who does great work but it's rare and can't be expected.

According to ragheadcount.com GFY appears to have very poor reach into that market.

I prefer to get someone local to do my graphics work, right here in my office sitting near me so I can supervise and get it knocked out. It's just too exhausting and slow to explain anything to anyone via email or icq or to send them the assets to work with via ftp or any other way.
